Rev. W. E. Poovey addressed the
District Conference of th^ M. E.
Church which met at Flat Rock
Thursday on the subject of Epworth
League work'. An unusually large
delegation of workers from the Bre
vard Methodist church accompanied
Mr. Poovey to Flat Rock to attend
the conference which lasted three
(lays. In the party with Mr. Poovey
were Mrs. Z. W. Nichols, Messrs. C.
H. Trowbridge, Welch Galloway, M.
J. Orr and Henry Ransom.
C. M. Doyle is suflfering a sprained
arm as a result of a kick from his
Ford.
A. B. Riley, city editor of the Spar
tanburg Herald, spent a short time
in town recently.
W. R. Gruber will be in Bre
vard the 4th week in June to repair
pianos and organs. Leave all orders

The Missionary Society of the Bap
tist church will meet with Mrs. S. C.

H. A. Plummer, who has been suf-
ferinjr with an inflamed eye caused
by a cinder and cold, has just about
recovered.

appeared on the program of the com
mencement concert which took place
at that institution last week.

to attend a meeting of the Board of

Mrs. Welch Galloway has returned
from Asheville where she has been
under treatment at the Mission Hos
pital.,

Mr. and Mrs. P. G. Morris, their
daughter, Miss Kathleen, and son,
Robert, of Tryon, N. C. spent the
week with friends here. They were
formerly residents of this place and
have many friends in this county.
Prof. and Mrs. B. H. Lewis have
arrived from Georgiana, Ala. and will
be here for the summer. Prof. Lewis
is a former principal of the Brevard
Graded School.

the State College at Raleigh for the
summer vacation.

MUSICAL PROGRAM FOR MATH-
ATASIAN CLUB
The bi-weekly meeting of the Math
atasian Club was held Thursday af
ternoon at the home of Mrs. R. S.
IV^organ with a large attendance of
members and guests present. ^ The
matter of the club’s representation
at the State Federation which meets
at HendeAonville on June the fourth
was taken up and Mrs. Chas. Deaver
Vv'as elected delegate from the local
organization to the state meeting.
Miss Mary Jane King of the Matha-
tasian Club has been invited by the
chairman of the entertainment com
mittee of the State Federation of
Women's Clubs to sing at the state
convention of club women which will
meet at Hendersonville next week.
Mrs. P. N. Simons will play Miss
King’s accompaniments on this occa
sion. Announcement was made on
Thursday afternoon that the annual
election of officers would take place
at the next meeting of the club which
will be held with Mrs. Julia Trow
bridge on the twelfth of June.
After the close of the business ses
sion a program of songs which was
enjoyed was rendered by the follow
ing soloists: Miss Mary Jane King,
Mrs. C. B. Osborne and Mrs. Eugene
Allison. Miss Maud Allison played
several piano selections and the sing-
rs were accompanied by Mrs. Simons.

Green of New York and John Reed
of Chicago will be joined in the bonds
