This campaign was sponsored here by :he Woman's Bureau under the general chaumansttip of Mrs. Oliver On. and it is no doubt gratifying to .lie iadit-s in their first attempt to launch this campaign in Brevard to .now that their untiring efforts have now received national recogni tion. and furthermore that the n;u, on-wide publicity thereby won r:oi Kievard wii! be of untold bene r.ts -.o this section. More than three thousand com mu lities throughout the United Sat-.-s engaged in Better Homes cam paigns this year, consequently the ladies in charge of the local cHin|>4i!?n have double reason to be pro. id of the fact that, out of so nisi iy communities observing the week, national recognition has been recorded Brevard. :'t?iiowing is the letter from Janes Ford, executive director, re ga:img the matter: July 1, 192S. - Mrs. Oliver Orr. ? ?i'fVititi. .StU'wii L Dear Mrs. Orr: I am glad to able to an : .e that the Committee on .w. ... There is a little, poisonous grey plant growing in dark places without sunshine or fresh air that is liable to kill one out of every fourteen and infect one out of every fifty persons in North Caro lina. This little poisonous grey plant is the tubercle bacillus. The plant is different from most plants. It thrives only in damp, dark places, in animals and particularly in the lungs of little boys and girls and grown men and women. It is shaped '..ke a lead pcncil and is so small that through a hole made by a pin in a shee of paper a thousand of these little germs could pass side by "side without touching each other or touching the sides of the hole. The little, grey plant cannot move about without being carried any more than a geranium can move without being carried. On a particle of dust many of these little, grey, lead pencil shaped plants can ride as safe and snug as if in a private care. Another peculiar thing about it is that while damp this little plant can't get into the air unless in a very strong blast of wind. Keep the plant moist and it won't have an opportun- i ity to get into the air and ride about I on its private ear of dust. Moist sweeping anil moist methods of dust ing are best in your home. It keeps the poisonous srrey plant from being carried about. These poisonous plants come only from what is expectorated from the lungs of someone who has tuber culo8is. These little plants growing in the lungs e;;ase tuberculosis. If everybody who coughs, whether they know they have th<52 litth grey plants growing in their lungs or not, would cover their mouths with a gauze or napkin when they cough, burn this gauze or napkin and burn^ what is coughed up the chief souroj of the distribution of these little poisonous grey plants would be del stroyed. Exposed to light and sun-j shine they cannot live. Let plenty! of fresh air and sunshine into your| louse. |W A f $ PLANE TO TEXAS FLIES TO TEXARKANA, TEXAS, 1,000 MILES IN TEN HOURS Lieut. M. A. C.
