Filled with messages of optimism and helpful ness from some of the leading farm ers, agricultural leaders and civic workers of the State and Country, the twenty-fourth annual session of the State Farmers Convention held at State College last week closed Thursday, July 29, after a most suc cessful meeting. There were approximately 1,700 ! farmers and their wives registered at the convention. Other hundreds drove in for a day to attend some special session without registering for rooms at the College. The con vention took up many outstanding problems of political affairs, rural schools, home building, and crop and livestock growing. Each afternoon was devoted to lectures on import ant farm and home problems while the forenoons were given over to special addresses. The evenings were devoted to inspirational talks and social affairs. , Mrs. J. S. Turner of Rockingham County was elected as the next President of the State Federation of Home Demonstration clubs. The other officers elected are: Vice-Pre sident, Mrs. R. A. McCullen of Samp son- County; Secretary, Miss Belva Bennett of Beaufort County; Re cording Secretary, Mrs. C. E. Cart er of Buncombe County and Treas urer, Mrs. Cornelia C. Morris of State College. The new officers for the Farmers Convention .are, President, C. F. Cates of Mebane; First Vice-Presid ent, P. D. Bagley, of Moyock; Sec ond Vice-President, James C. K. Mc Clure of Asheville and Secretary Treasurer, James M. Gray of State College. Before adjournment on Thursday morning the assembled farmers pas 1 sed resolutions advocating many of the important matters brought be fore the convention, j church expenses; salvation is free and the Lord will provide.
