Williams and Mr. Willson Edwards, all of Greens boro, have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Whitmire of^herry field for the past ten days. Mrs. G. L. Dalton and daughter, Frances, left Sunday on a visit to Hampton, Va. Miss Mae Dalton is visiting rela ^tives in Canton. Mrs. V. M. Wilson, of Caroleen, is visiting her son, H. L. Wilson, this week. Miss Thurza Bowen is visiting her brother, W. H. Bowen, .n Hender sonville. Mrs. Ethel McMinn has as her guests at the McMinn House, Mrs. Matthews, Miss Sarah Matthews, Mrs. Anie, Mr. and Mrs. Williams Shermer, all of Charleston, Mrs. Andrew and two children, of Fer nandino, Fla., Miss Upshaw and Miss Pinkerson, of Atlanta, Misses Ed ward. Rollins and Williams, of Sa vannah. Mrs. W. H. Faulkner of Asheville was the guest of Mrs. C. M. Siniard the past two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. S. N. McKelvey and three children, of Long View, Texas, returned Thursday after spending a few weeks with friends and rela tives. Mrs. G. H. Levy of Monroe is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Cunningham. Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Eddy, of Clemson, S. C., motored to Brevard on Sunday, and Mrs. M. H. Faulkner, mother of Mrs. Eddy, accompained them home. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Bowen, of Hendersonville, and Mrs. John Powell, of Blantyre, were in town Sunday and attended the wedding of Miss Agnes Hayes. J. W. Cobble is in Marion this week on business. Miss Ruth Brooks spent the week end with her sister, Mrs. W. S. Price. Jr. W. C. Byrd, of Laurens, S.C., has movsd to Brevard with his wife and children, and is employed as clerk in the stock room at Lowfe Motor company. Miss Emeve Crouch, of _ Charles ton, is visiting Miss Elsie 'Walker. The ladies of the Baptist church will hold their Pollvanna social Friday night of this week at the home of Mrs. W. S. Mrs. Gibb expects to return to her home in Philadelphia early in August. . AT CONNESTEE COVE CAMP An enjoyable play was presented at Connestee Cove Camp Tuesday, July 27th, by the campers. There are seven cottages "On the Hill" now being occupied by the summer colony. Mrs. Bryan has opened up her coffee shop on the highway, and this is becoming quite a popular place for all. MRS. HAROLD NORWOOD ENTERTAINS AT BRIDGE Mrs Harold Norwood was hostess at two tables of bridge Tuesday afternoon at her home on Park ave nue, honoring Mrs. Joseph S. Gibb, of Philadelphia, who has been visiting her niece, Mrs. D. G. Ward for several weeks. Those enjoying this delightful social affair were, Mrs. J. S. Gibb, Mrs. Ward, Mrs. Ralph Fisher, Mrs. Hackler, of Charlotte. Miss Sisson, of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Walter Duckworth, Mrs. A. M. E. Wood bridge. DUNKIN-HAYES Coming as a surprise to friends was the marriage of Miss Agnes Hayes, of Brevard, to .Mr. Kerney Dunkin, of Hendersonville, which event was solemnized Sunday after noon at two o'clock at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Hayes, the Rev. Carol Blythe, of Blantyre, officiating. In addition to the immediate family there were present at the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Bowen, of Henderson I ville, and Mrs. John Powell, of Blantyre. | Mr. and Mrs. Dunkin left soon after the ceremony for Henderson ? ville where they will make their home for the present. (Mrs. E. R. Welch and daughter, Miss l Elizabeth, returned Tuesday from Norfolk, Va., where they have been visiting for two months. On last Wednesday evening Mr., and Mrs. McKelvey and three chil , dren, of Long View, Texas, were , happily surprised with a picnic din i ner when Mrs. C. M. Siniard, the : aunt of Mrs. McKelvey, and other (relatives gathered there and spread - a good dinner which all enjoyed. THE BREVARD MISSIONARY SOCIETY MEETS I The Missionary Society of the Baptist Church met on Tuesday afternoon at the church. The meet ing was conducted by the president, Mrs. T. P. Ward, who led tha de votional, her subject being "Faith." The program for- the month was in charge of Mrs. Avery Case, and the subject for the meeting was, "Cuba and the Canal Zone." The most interesting subject was discussed by several of the members and was most inspiring and helpful and in forming as to our Southern Baptist work in these districts. After the, regular business session, the meeting adjourned. THE POLLYANNA SOCIAL The Pollyanna Social will bt I given on Friday evening of this j week at the home of Mr .and Mrs. I W. S. Price, Jr. This is the quart- , lerly social of the Woman's Mission ary Society of the Brevard Baptist Church and all the "Pollyannas" are requested to be present ana bring their husbands. A pleasant evening is promised all who attend. =-| MRS. T. S. TEACUE ENTERTAINS Mrs. T. S. Teajjue entertained with a porch party Wednesday evening at her home on Whitmire street, honoring her two house guests, Miss Josephine Adams and Miss Miriam Tallevast, of Georgetown, S. C. The evening was pleasantly spent with games and various forms of amusement, during which a salad course was served. Fifteen guests were present. MRS. J. S. SILVERSTEEN ENTERTAINS AT COUNTRY CLUB A delightful social event of the week was the bridge party given by Mrs. J. S. Silversteen at the Country Club Thursday afternoon, in honor of Mrs. Joseph S. Gibb, of Phila delphia. Two tables were arranged for play, Mrs. M. A. E. Woodbridgi winning high score and the guest o* honor was presented a guest prize. Dainty refreshments were served at the conclusion of the games. RUTH PICKLESIMER ENTER TAINS GUEST Ruth Picklesimer entertaine i Monday evening 'at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Pickle simer, with a masquerade party, in honor of her little guest, Mary Groce, of Asheville. The fifteen children present spent a happy evening in games and a general time of merriment on the lawn. Refreshments wqre served during the evening. )PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH NEWS Visiting and local Presbyterians are invited to an informal reception to be held on the Presbyterian church lawn from five to seven o'clock, Thursday, August 5. Dr. W. T. Thompson, professor of Religious Education at Union Sem inary, Richmond, Va., occupied the pulpit at this church Sunday morn, ing and delivered an eloquent and impressive sermon. On next Sunday morning those in attendance will have the privilege o f hearing Dr. John Grant Newman, pastor of the Wiley-Chambers Pres byterian church, Philadelphia. The subject for the Wednesday evening mid-week service this week .will be "Why Men Neglect to Bear Personal Testimony," being the fourth in the series of addresses on "Introducing Men to Christ."
