LIBRARY REPORT FOR WEEK ? The adult attendance at the U. D. C. library for the past week shows & considerable increase over the prev ious week, indicating -he increased popularity of the library among the reading public. The attendance during the past week included 192 adults and 25 juniors, with 139 adult books in emu lation and """13 junior books. Three new members were enrolled during the week. Two new books were donated by Mrs. Leak, as follows: Conquest, by Olive Wadsley, and The Golden Slip per, by Anna K. Green. EAST FORK NEWS m. Mr. Robert Ingle, aged '25, of Greenville, S. C., was drowned in East Fork river Friday afternoon. He with his wife and two small children, were spending a few days with Mrs. Ingle's brother, Mr. Cleveland, at his summer home (for merly the Dub home). Mr. Ingle was- in bathing in a deep hole in the river near B. A. Gillespie's house. He had not been swimming long be fore he suddenly sank. Those stand ing on the bank, including Mr. Cleve land and some small boys, at first thought that he was doing some div ing stunts, but later knew better. Ralph Gillespie, one of the boys, ran for help. W ill Gravely. Frank Lance and Erskine Whitmire finally succeeded in getting him out of the water, after Frank Lance's diving and locating him. His body was taken to Brevard Friday, late in the afternoon, and was carried to Green ville Saturday for burial. Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Gravely, Sr., Mrs. M. B. Redmon. Mrs. B. A. Gil lespie and Mrs. W. C. Gavely at tended the funeral of Mrs. E. M. Whitmire, of Rosman last Friday afternoon. Mrs. W hitmire is a sis ter of Mrs. W. W. Gravely. "Mr. and Mrs. Jack Heath spent the week-end with Mrs. Heath's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Gillespie. Mr. Homer Gillespie and a friend from Greenville, spent several days on East Fork last week. Mrs. M. B. Redmon spent Sunday night in Asheville with Mrs. Jack Heath. , Miss Lucille Singleterrv and broth er. Ross, are spending a few days with their uncle, Mr. Singleterrv, at his summer home. Messrs. M. B. Redmon and W. C. Gravely and Robert Gravely spent Monday in -Asheville. Since crops are "laved by," some of our folks are doing some farm improvement work, such as hunting bee trees, and running water lines to the house, etc. The revenue officers were East Fork visitors Sunday ? and yes they were here Saturday afternoon, too. It's rumored that they got a car, a man and some booze, Saturday. GLADE CREEK NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Paul York visited Mrs. S. L. Metcali Sunday. Mr. Clyde Brown spent the week end with his parents at this -place. Mr. C. E. Blythe and Mr. J. Sentell were guests of Mr. C. E. Orr Friday.. Mrs. C. H. Stewart and daughter, Miss Pauline, visited Mrs. Metcalf , Saturday. Mrs. S. V. Brown had as her din ner guests Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Orr and son Ralph, and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Brown of Hen dersonville, visited Mrs. J. R. Brown recently. Miss Mary Belle Orr, who is teaching school at Blantyre, spent the week-end at her home Here.
