SURVEY OF COUNTY '
ORDERED BY BOARD
To Determine Amount of Property
Not Listed for Taxation
Is Purpose
Chairman J. H. Piekelsimcr and
C. C. Yongue were appointed by the
county commissioners as a special
committee to confer with engineers
and determine the cost of making a
survey of Transylvania county. The
purpose of this intended survey, it
is said, is to ascertain the amount
of property pot listed for taxation.
It is planned to make a survey of
one township, and if sufficient, non
listed property is discovered to
justify expenses, it is said that a ]
survey of all other townships will
then be made.
For some time officials have been I
of the opinion that there is much]
property in Transylvania county not
listed for taxation. The argument |
has been put forth that if all nrop- j
erty in the county could be placed
on the books that this increased rev
enue would justify a reduction in
the tax rates.
This action on the part of the
commissioners will soon determine!
it is thought, whether or not there'
is property in the County on which
no taxes are being paid.

FISHING LICENSE
AT CIMK'S OFFICE
Clerk of the Court Roinnd Owen;
has received fishing license and but- j
tons which all people are required i
to obtain under the state-wide fish- 1
ing and game law enacted at the \
recent legislature. The law provides]
that all people must obtain these li- 1
censes before engaging in the n- j
tie art of fishing. There is ail ex
ception in that the provisions of this
law do not apply to people lis'hinir
only in privately owned ponds or
lakes, or who are fishing only on 5
their own lands. Nor do the pro- 1
visions of the act apply to the old .
method of hook and line fishing,
that is. to those who fish only with
and ordinary reed or wood pole and
line with single baited hook attached.
Licenses for residents of this
county cost $1. The residence state ?
license costs ?2. and to non-residen*
the license is $3. In either ca-e
there is an additional ten cents to In
paid for the issuance of \he li
cense.

FIRE INSURANCE RATES IN
BREVARD WILL BE REDUCED
Fire insurance rates in Brevard
arc to be reduced, according to an
nouncement made by City Clerk
.Harry Patton to the meeting of the
bo&rd of aldermen Monday ni^ht.
This town has been placed in the
second class rating, instead of the
third class, as heretofore, arid this
change carries with it a decrease in
fire insurance rates of about 25 per
cent.
There are a few minor changes
the town must make in fire equip
merit licfoie the new rating tfoox in- 1
to vfTcct. These changes, it is said,
will soon be* made and then Hrevard |
will be placed in the Mime rating as '
othor cities its size and with equal I
water supply, paved streets and lire
li*rhtin*> apparatus.
Harry I'atton has worked hard in
brinjfinfr about this change, and
many cili/.ens have been h*ard to.
express appreciation for the sue- ,
cossful efforts of the city clerk in ,
effecting this great saving for prop-!
<rty owners of Brevard.
IMPORT AM ANNOUNCEMENTS
TO BE MADE AT EARLY DATE
Well founded rumors of several |
bip projects soon to be started in this :
section have caused the business !
men of Brevard to assume almost
liow personalities during tM p asi
few days. Shoulders seem to be
straighter, smiles have chased frowns
away from faces, ha-ha-ha-ha's are
heard where groans and moans have
been audible during winter months,
and cheery greetings float through
the air instead of grunted hovvdys
of a few weeks ago.
T he News hates that old expres
sion of "I told ycu so," but we can
hardly refrain from saying it now. '
We've told our readers so often that
this section will prosper as long as
there is prosperity anywhere in the I
whole world.
From week to week in the im
mediate future this paper will have j
real interesting announcements to :
make to its readers. So perk up,
the worst is over ? the future is just
what we make it!
