Fisher, who was quite ill some days ago, is very much improved, to the delight of her many friends. Mrs. Maxie Hayes, who was for some time in French Broad hospital, Asheville, for treatment, is again at home with her husband, Mr. Free man Hayes. Mr Frank Covel of Tryon, is vis iting in Rosman this week. Mrs. R. S. Winchester, who spent some time with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Raxter, near Brevard is at home again and is very much improved in health. Mr. and Mrs. Oby Moore, Mr. C. F. Jones and Miss Mayme Bartles on made a business trip to Pickens, S. C., Monday. Mr. Flem Glazener spent the last week-end with relatives and friends at Pickens, S. C. He reports a de lightful time. Miss Lillie Raxter of near Bre vard, is visiting her sister here, Mrs. R. S. Winchester. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Hoover will leave on Tuesday for their home in Sumpter, S. C. Mr. Hoover is mill foreman for the Gloucester Lumber company here. j Mr. Glenn Cannon of Berea Col lege, visited his aunt, Mrs. Guss Glazener, here last Sunday. Mr. James CoriYier moved with his family from Tryon to Rosman one day last week. We welcome these j friends among us. Mrs. W. F. Garren and children, Forrest and Dora, of Asheville, are visiting Mrs. Garren's parents, Mr. I and Mrs. L. M. Glazener. Miss Lucy Fullbright visited Miss Alza Hogsed last week. Mr. A. O. Kitchen, who has been in Florida for some time, returned last week, and has taken up his old duties as agent in the depot. Mr. E. N. Hall has returned to his home at Bryson City. For the past ni'<e months Mr. Hall has held the position of depot agent. He will sp.-nd several days at his home, then he will return to Toxaway to again take up the duties of depot agent there. Mr. Pace is a new arrival in our town. He is filling the position of operator at the depot, while Mr. D. L. Glazener is taking his vacation. Miss Lucy Fullbright was a Bre vard visitor last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Allen of Hen dersonville were callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Glazener one afternoon last week. Mr. C. J. Eldridge, sawyer at the Gloucester lumber company's mill, says, "Since the saw mill is 'to cease operation for a few days, I think I'll get out where I'm not known W. M. U. HOLDS FINE MEETING LAST MONDAY The W. M. U. of the Ilaptist church met Monday afternoon of this j . week. The attendance was large and ] 1 the meeting fine hoth in spirit and | ' devotion. Mrs. \V. FRANK FISHER DEAD The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fisher died last Wednesday afternon and was buried the follow ing day in the Oak Grove cemetery. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. F. Wright and Rev. Z. I. Henderson. .The grief stricken par ents have the sympathy of their many friends throughout the county. and hold a meeting, eat chicken and grow fat" Mrs. D. L. Glazener has recently been very sick, but is rapidly im proving. Misses Edna White and Beatrice Sisk have returned from Wcaver v>!le. where they attended school the past term. They will spend the summer at their homes here. Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Fullbright anti family of Brevard, spent the day in Rosman Sunday. Mr. Paul McClure, of Clemson College, S. C.. is at home with his brother, Mr. G. C. McClure, for the summer months. ? Mr. C. F .Jones left here Tuesday for a brief visit to his home in Ashe ville. Mr. Jones is a saw-filer for the Gloucester Lumber company here, and has many friends. Miss Mary Whitmire and Miss Hume Cannon left Monday for Cul lowhee to attend summer school. Mr. W. A. McClure and family of Spartanburg, S. C? were visitors at the home of the former's brother, Mr. G. C. McClure, here last Sun day. Mr. Lowell Wright, Misses Lucy | and Opal Fullbright made a brief visit to South Carolina last Sunday afternoon. | Dr. J. A. Cannon and family of Pickens, S. C., visited at the home of the doctor's mother-in-law, Mrs. .Whitmire, recently. "H. F. Wright of Rosman, N. C., was in Walhalla for a short while on Saturday. WINCHESTER DIED LAST WEEK Mrs. J, W. Winchester, well known anil much beloved by people of Rosman, died suddenly at her home in Pickens? S. (\, last Wednes day afternoon. She was 57 years of age and was the daughter of Mr. Guss hooper, who was a son of one of Pickens county's prominent families. Her mother was before her marriage a Miss l.ewis, who was also a daugh ter of another one of Pickens coun ty's prominent families. Hassie was a popular young lady and a favorite of her great host of friends as well as a long list of rel atives in Pickens, Oconee, Ander son and Greenville counties. In early womanhood she was hap pily married to Mr. J. W. Winches ter, son of the late Daniel Win chester, who was also a member of another prominent family of Pickens county. To this union were born six children, five boys and one girl, all of whom are yet living. Her children are Edd, who resides with his father, L. L., of Henderson ville; R. S., 13. H., and McDaniel of Rosman. The daughter is now Mrs. Pearl Kelley and lives at Greenville, S. C. Funeral services were held at Mountain Grove, her home church, conducted by Rev. C. R. Abercroni bie, Rev. H. F. Wright and Rev. J. C. Richardson Her body was laid to rest in the cemetery of her home church in the presence of a large several years in the Thomasville Or phanage, now staying in Greenville, is visiting her father at Quebec. Perhaps it will be of interest to some of the people here to know that Miss Beulah Whitmire of Greenville, formerly of Quebec, was married last week to Mr. Morris Crain of Greenville. Mr. and Mrs. Grover Woodard of Rosman were visitors of Mrs. Avery Reid Sunday. Miss Helen Henderson is on the sick list this week. Miss Azilee Owen and Mr. Homer Moss made a trip to Salem, S. 0., where they attended a singing con vention Sunday. SUNBEAM BAND ORGANIZED AND PARTY GIVEN One of the delightful occasions of Wednesday afternoon was a party given for the Sunbeam Band of Ros man, by Mrs. M. C. Sumerel, at her home. ' I The most important feature of ; he | program was the election of officers . for the Band. A Sunbeam contest which proved to be very interesting for the chil dren was enjoyed. TO GIVE SPECIAL PROGRAM SUNDAY NIGHT There will be a special B. Y. P. U. program given at Zion Baptist church Sunday night, June 19, at 7:15. Every member is urged to come on time and bring some one. The parents and public have a cor dial invitation to meet with the young people. THE HEN THAT CAN COUNT NO FURTHER THAN SIX Mr. Walter Whitmire says "My old hen has at last gone to laying again. This time she stole her nest out and when I took her fcggs away she quit and moved her nest. I then took some nice, smooth round rocks, and each time I took out an egg put in a rock. This I did until I had put in six stones, then left off putting any more stones in, it not being nec essary as the hen could not count but six. ' He further stated, "I might have been married long, long ago, but the ladies can count more than six." One club boy in Pitt county bor rowed the ure of his mother's flow or house to use as a brooder for his younr chicks and states that it made a good one.
