U. ORGANIZATIONS ENJOY SOCIAL GATHERING The three B. Y. I*. U. organiza tions of the Baptist church. the junior, intermediate and senior, met in the new Sunday School parlors Tuesday evening, at which time a thoroughly enjoyable social gather ing was held. PLUMMER FOR RE-ELECTION With the election of new officials for the Chamber of Commerce at hand, the question naturally arises as to the best man to head the organ ization durinj; 1928. The Brevard News is not given to making ad %'ance suggestions as the men need ed to guide the old ships that are to bring in the cargoes some day, but this is one time we simply must break over the traces and make a suggestion. We here and now nominate for another term that old war horse of public affairs? Henry A. Plummer. Mr. Plummer is the present presi dent, and he has worked and labored in season and out, day and night, during the past year until it seems p. cruelty to a friend to even sug gest his taking the reigns of govern ment for another year. We are fullv aware of the sacrifices he has made during the year 1927, and much as we love him personally, we nominate him for another year's work and labor. President Plummer has had the responsibility of ihe office during the most trying year in the town's history. He took up the reins just after the wild west riders of real estate fame threw them down, and he gave to Brevard more than its share of summer tourists and sum mer business. When there was no money in the treasury with which to pay bills, Mr. Pluiiimer left his place of business and went out, on foot ? on both feet, for that matter ? and collected the necessary coin. When there was a chance of landing a factory here, Mr. Plummer forgot he had a store, and spent his time with prospective manufacturers. Whan a tourist was. not satisfied with his or her boarding place, Mr. Plummer went out with them and found a place that would suit them, and sent them away at the close of the season bragging on Brevard. Everybody knows that 1928 is going to be a much happier, more prosperous and finer year than was this old nightmare just closing. Business men of Brevard are heart ily ashamed that they have permit ted Mr. Plummer to have to do all the work he has done during 1927, and it is already determined that the next president of the Chamber of Commerce will have more loyal and intelligent support than the presi dent whose term is now expiring. So if there is to be any more con genial work in the office, if there is to be a real pleasure and a genuine joy in the presidency, surely it be longs to Henry Plummer. Therefore we nominate Henry A. Plummer for president of the Cham ber of Commerce during 1928. (Wallace Hartsell and Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Sit l on.
