4 <s | Society News and Clab Activities j \V= HAMILTON-DEAN MARRIAGE SOLEMNIZED Coming aa a complete surprise . to their many friends was the marriage Saturday noon, June 6th, of Miss Annie Hamilton and Mr. Guy Dean. The ceremony was performed by Kev. Paul Hartsell in the Baptist Pastorium, with a few friends and relatives present. The bride is the attractive daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Hamilton, *ikt the groom the son of Mrs. Cora Dean of North Brevard, and is "a popular young business man of Bre vard. He is connected with the 3 Point Service Station. After a short wedding trip the young coupte are ?ow a; home to their many frtend3 in North Brevard. SHOWER GIVEN FOR. BRIDE-ELECT Mr*. Walter Ledbetter and Miss Julia Wood were joint hostesses for a miscellaneous shower at the home at Mrs. Ledbetter, Friday evening, honoring Miss Annie Hamilton, whose marriage to Mr. Guy Dean took place on the following day. The object of the party was a com pline surprise to the bride-elect until she was presented with a decorated bz. tilled with gifts from each of he1 riends. After she had admired Sec presents and thanked the donors, sht was asked to iead the way to the dining room. There on the. center of the table was a large white cake dec orated with a miniature bride. The bride-elect was asked to cut the cake and much merriment was caused in the search for the ring, penny, and thimble in the cake. The one who found iiie ring in her slice of cake presented the honoreo with a bouquet ?f pink and white roses which had in the center a salad fork and spoon protruding nbove the roses. When the refreshments were served the guests were asked to write their heart wish for the bride in her book. A color scheme of pink and white was car ried out in the decorations and re freshments. RR I DE-ELECT HONORED AT LOVELY PARTY Mrs. Jerry Jerome and Mrs. Row *nu Summey were associate hostesses Friday afternoon at a lovely bridge and handkerchief shower at the Sum mey apartment, honoring Miss Emily Mcore, bride-elect of June. The rooms *ere beautifully decorated with bas kets of roses and fern. Miss Jackie Clayton won high score and was pre sented a lovely picture. Miss Mamie Lyday scored low and received a dainty gift. Miss Moore was giver ?a har.il-painted piece of pottery. Miss Mildri-d Clayton, bride-elect of June, ?vas given a beautiful guest towel. Mrs. Jerome presented the handker chief to Miss Moore in an attractive ly decorated basket. At the conclu sion of the game a delicious salad course was served. Austin Studio 22 Broadway PEARCE -SELLERS Of much interest in Western Car olina a$d , St. Petersburg society circles was the marriage of MIbs Margaret Strange Pearce and Mr. Harry Russell Sellers, the eeremony occurring Tuesday evening at eight j'clook at St. Philips. Episcopal church in Brevard. The Rev. Harry Perry, rector of St. Philips church, jfticiated, using the ring ceremony. A profusion of mountain laurel and ferns, artistically arranged in .he nave of the church, together with a bower of English ivy and laurel, forming a canopy, under which the J>ridal party approached the altar, all combined to present a veritable fairy garden of flowers. Preceding the ceremony Mrs. David G. Ward, presiding at the organ, rendered a short musical program, including "idylle," by Lysbcrg; "i'raumorei," by Schumann; "Air from Faust," by Gounod; and "Rom iiwa.1' Immediately preceding the stance of the bridal party, the vest ed choir marched down the aisle sing ing the bridal hymn, "O perfect Love." At the first strains of Lohengrin's Rridal Chorus, the bridal party en tered in procession, forming a semi circle before the altar. Mendelssohn's Wedding March was played as the recessional. The four groomsmen, Messrs. Mil ton Sellers, brother of the groom, ridwin English, Pat Howell and George Cathey, were followed by the maid of honor, Miss Martine Pearce, sister of the bride, and the matron of honor, Mrs. Morrison Pearce, of St. Petersburg, Fla. The flower girl, little Marjorie Perry, scattering rose oetals, preceded the bride, who en ured on the arm of her brother, Mr. P.. S. Pearce Jr., who gave his sister away in marriage. Following in or der were the four bridesmaids, Jane Pearce, sister of the bride, Edith Sellers, sister of the groom, Margaret Miller and Lucile Morrison. The groom, entering from the sacristy with his brother as best man, Mr. Paul Sellers, met the bride at the altar, where the vows were spoken. The bride was lovely in a gown of ivory satin, her mother's wedding gown, with ivory slippers and mitts anil lace cup caught with a trailing tulle veil edged in lace and carrying a prayer book and shower boquet of bride's roses. Her only ornament was a strand of pearls, from which hung a gold cross, the gift of her mother. The maid of honor wore pink or gandie with accessories in pink, car rying a shower of sweetheart roses, The matron of honor was attired in -vink and green organdie with access ivies in the same shades, and carried pink peonies. The bridesmaids were gowned in green organdie, with pink hat, slippers and mittes and carrying oink peonies. The little flower girl was dainty in white organdie over oink satin, with pink hat and slip pers. The mother of the bride was attired in white chiffon and white ac cessories, wearing a corsage <jf white roses, while the groom's mother wore navy blue flat crepe, with accessories in a lighter shade and a corsage of pink buds. Following the ceremony, an uiiuiui al reception was held at the bride's home, with a few relatives and in timate friends present, after which the bride donned a traveling en semble of Woodlawn green with ac cessories in pink. Following a short honeymoon trip the young couple will return to Brevard where they will make their home. Mrs. Sellers, the eldest daughter of the late I)r. R. S. Pearce and Mrs. Pearce, is a native of St. Petersburg, Florida and a graduate of Junior Col lege of that city. For the past eleven years she has made her summer home in Brevard with her parents. She is a young lady of charming personality and extremely popular in society circles in both her native and adopt ed homes. Mr. Sellers, the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Sellers, of Asheville, is a graduate of the Asheville High school. For the past four years he has made his home in Brevard, where he is prominently engaged in business. He is a young man of sterling qualities and has made a host of friends during his residence in the city. Out of town guests at the wedding included: Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Five tables were arranged for jplay- ; ing in the living room and sun room. The feature of the afternoon was a surprise shower. The shower occur red at the end of a series of games. Bali of Chesterbrook, Va., was the scent of the wedding last night of their daughter, Miss Dorothy Mae Ball, and Mr. Etienne Leroy Cloud of Fairfax, Va., son of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Cloud of Brevard, N. C. ! The ceremony was performed at an altar erected in the archway be tween the two large living rooms, .white ribbons forming an aisle ? through one of the rooms from the hall. The house was charmingly dec | orated with pink and white roses and peonies, palms, ferns and oak leaves. They will make their home on Oak street in Falls Church on their return. Mr. Cloud is in business in Fairfax. Miss Ball, who is a gradu ate of Harrisonburg State Teachers' {College, has taught in Madison School at Falls Church for six years. She was guest of honor recently at two sbowwre given by the school faculty, one at the home of Mrs. Carroll V Shreve in Falls Church, and one given at the home of her sister. CHARLES CORN HAD NARROW ESCAPE LAST SATURDAY Charles Corn, members of the' con struction force of the local telephone company, had a miraculous escape last Saturday when he came in con tact with a heavy voltage wire while working on the telephone lines neai Camp Sapphire. As it was, the young man suffered severely from the shock. He is making rapid recovery however, and his friends were de lighted to see him on the stretes Sun day.
