FUNERAL SERVICE FOR WM.
W ATKINS HELD LAST FRIDAY,
William Watkins, 24, died at the
home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
L. M. Watkins, Wednesday afternoon,
July 1, following a long illness. Mr.
Watkins was one of the most beloved
boys of Rosman, and had a host of
friends in the two Carolinas.
He was graduated from Rosman
high school at the age of 16 years,
entered State college., Raleigh, and
was in his junior year when his
^health gave way, forcing him to re
? turn home. He later entered a Wood
man sanatorium at San Antonio, Tex.
remaining for two years. lie returned
to Rosman about two years ago. He
was a member of Zion Baptist church
and was cheerful throughout his ill
ness and always greeted his friends
with a smile. A friend of mine re
marked the other day that William j
Watkins was "the best boy ever rais-|
ed in this community and perhaps by .
his shining example he may have ac
complished more by his short life
than many of us who live longer
lives..
Funeral services were held at Lit
tle River Friday afternoon at 2:30
o'clock. Rev. J. E. Bert, Rev. J. M.
Green and Rev. W. E. Rufty and
the Woodmen of the World had
charge of the funeral rites. Interment
was in the Little River cemetery near
by. ,
The large crowd and banks of flow
ers gave proof of the high esteem the
community held the deceased.
Surviving are the parents, Mr. and
Mrs. L. M. Watkins; three sisters,
Mrs. Robert Zachary, Hendersonville,
Mrs. Claud Kilby, Greenville, S. C.,
Miss Mildred Watkins, Rosman, and
a brother, Girtha Watkins, Rosman.

COULD NOT ATTEND SINGING
Mr. E. D. Randolph would like for
the people to know the reason why
be could not attend the junior singing
convention was because of the illness
in his family. The reason the Green
ville quartet did not arrive is un
known.
THANKS, FRIENDS
The revival meeting that has been
in progress for the past two weeks
at Cathey's Creek closed last Satur
day night with much success. We
feel that this revival has been the
means in bringing about peace and
harmony among the people at Cath
ey's Creek, as well as a spiritual up
lift to the community at large,
The folks there deserve great cred
it for their interest shown during the
meeting. The church was filled every
Tiight, and the members did all they
could to make every service a suc
cess.
A few words of encouragement to
those who made a profession of faith.
riJon't ever become discouraged be
cause of the trials and persecution
that you will meet as you travel along
the journey of life. Dear Christian
friends, fight the battle on faithfully
and stanc? true, unmovable, ever
abounding in the work of the Lord.
There are a few more victories to be
won over Satan and sin as the fleet
ing years go by.
I want each one to remember that
the closer we live each day to our
Saviour and the better we serve Him,
blessings well all enjoy.
Again thanking the people for the
kindness shown me during the two
weeks'' labor with them, I am
Yours truly,
E. D. RANDOLPH.
