Rosman Section of The Brevard News nUMIIUIt j0RDAN WHITMIRK, Editor __ FUNERAL SERVICE FOR WM. W ATKINS HELD LAST FRIDAY, William Watkins, 24, died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Watkins, Wednesday afternoon, July 1, following a long illness. Mr. Watkins was one of the most beloved boys of Rosman, and had a host of friends in the two Carolinas. He was graduated from Rosman high school at the age of 16 years, entered State college., Raleigh, and was in his junior year when his ^health gave way, forcing him to re ? turn home. He later entered a Wood man sanatorium at San Antonio, Tex. remaining for two years. lie returned to Rosman about two years ago. He was a member of Zion Baptist church and was cheerful throughout his ill ness and always greeted his friends with a smile. A friend of mine re marked the other day that William j Watkins was "the best boy ever rais-| ed in this community and perhaps by . his shining example he may have ac complished more by his short life than many of us who live longer lives.. Funeral services were held at Lit tle River Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. J. E. Bert, Rev. J. M. Green and Rev. W. E. Rufty and the Woodmen of the World had charge of the funeral rites. Interment was in the Little River cemetery near by. , The large crowd and banks of flow ers gave proof of the high esteem the community held the deceased. Surviving are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Watkins; three sisters, Mrs. Robert Zachary, Hendersonville, Mrs. Claud Kilby, Greenville, S. C., Miss Mildred Watkins, Rosman, and a brother, Girtha Watkins, Rosman. Eldridge and sons, Douglas, Ralph and Roy, motor ed to Pisgah National Forest the 4th, and enjoyed a picnic. i REV. GROGAN MAKES ADDRESS Rev. Mack Grogan of Brevard, de livered a wonderful sermon to the Woodmen of the World at Rosman M. E. church Sunday morning. A large number attended in a body. j ALL-DAY SINGING SUNDAY Don't forget the all-day singing to be held at Middle Fork Baptist church next Sunday, beginning promptly at 10 o'clock. Dinner will be served during the noon hour, and everybody is requested to bring a basket of lunch and spend the day. Good singers are expected to be present. SUPPER AT DOUBLE SPRINGS Mr. and Mrs. L. SUCCESSFUL REVIVAL CLOSES The revival services held at Cath- j ey's Creek Baptist church came to a close Sunday. There were 12 mem- , bers baptized by the pastor ,Rev. Nathan Chapman, and a number to be baptized the third Sunday. The meeting was very successful in every respect. CARD OF THANKS Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Watkins wish | to express deepest gratitude to their friends, relatives and neighbors for j the many kindnesses shown and the beautiful flowers brought during the j illness and death of their son, Wil- ; liam. COULD NOT ATTEND SINGING Mr. E. D. Randolph would like for the people to know the reason why be could not attend the junior singing convention was because of the illness in his family. The reason the Green ville quartet did not arrive is un known. THANKS, FRIENDS The revival meeting that has been in progress for the past two weeks at Cathey's Creek closed last Satur day night with much success. We feel that this revival has been the means in bringing about peace and harmony among the people at Cath ey's Creek, as well as a spiritual up lift to the community at large, The folks there deserve great cred it for their interest shown during the meeting. The church was filled every Tiight, and the members did all they could to make every service a suc cess. A few words of encouragement to those who made a profession of faith. riJon't ever become discouraged be cause of the trials and persecution that you will meet as you travel along the journey of life. Dear Christian friends, fight the battle on faithfully and stanc? true, unmovable, ever abounding in the work of the Lord. There are a few more victories to be won over Satan and sin as the fleet ing years go by. I want each one to remember that the closer we live each day to our Saviour and the better we serve Him, blessings well all enjoy.
