Enon Sunday School folks have
appointed Thomas Williams, N. L.
Ponder, J. R. Brown, Mrs. Ina Rus
tin and Mrs. M. H. Holliday to act
as a committee in securing donations
of produce for the Thomasville Or
phanage. It is suggested by Mr.
Williams that the people of the Tran
sylvania Association put in their
produce as early as possible and not
wait until the cold weather begins at
Thanksgiving. Mr. F. H. Holden is
looking after the work in the Associ
ation and Enon folks would like to
have his help in making an early
shipment instead of waiting until
Thanksgiving.
A ball team from Penrose school
engaged the Little River team last
Friday at Penrose in a very interest
ing game. Penrose won by a score
of 15 to 10. Claud Davis and Fulton

Merrell pitched and Earl Cantrell
caught for Little River.
John Green and family are attend

who died in Polk county, this week.
Mr. Green left Monday to arrange
funeral services and the family fol
lowed Tuesday. Mr. Green is work
ing for the state with N. A. Miller
on roads in the upper end of the
county.
Penrose school is getting along
nicely. Hot days and low water
make the work a little off. Several
children who were out for fodder
work, have returned, but a few are
out yet. Prof. J". B. Jones was a visi
tor at the school last week and gave
us some very encouraging words.
The children are working for an
honor roll for next week's paper.
AN APPRECIATION
I There has recently passed from
our midst a representative of one of
: the oldest families here, ? a type that
is fast disappearing.
There are few left in these latter
days who were privileged to know
Miss Delia Gash well enough to real
ize what a rare character we had
among us.
She belonged to the true aristoc
racy, ? not of money or lands or
power, but with wealth of principle
to the truth and to right, with educa
tion not alone from books but from
wide experience. She was a great
reader and a woman of fine intellec
tual tastes. She was versed in bot
any and was an authority on the
plant life of this section.
I No one would suspect from her dig
unified reticence how great was her
; sense of humor, but those who knew
her best could appreciate this qual
ity. It is hard to give up old friends,
but the memory of such a life as
hers leaves us the torch to carry on.
She was spared a long illness.
In silent majesty "she crossed the
bar to meet her Pilot fact to face."
