AN APPRECIATION I There has recently passed from our midst a representative of one of : the oldest families here, ? a type that is fast disappearing. There are few left in these latter days who were privileged to know Miss Delia Gash well enough to real ize what a rare character we had among us. She belonged to the true aristoc racy, ? not of money or lands or power, but with wealth of principle to the truth and to right, with educa tion not alone from books but from wide experience. She was a great reader and a woman of fine intellec tual tastes. She was versed in bot any and was an authority on the plant life of this section. I No one would suspect from her dig unified reticence how great was her ; sense of humor, but those who knew her best could appreciate this qual ity. It is hard to give up old friends, but the memory of such a life as hers leaves us the torch to carry on. She was spared a long illness. In silent majesty "she crossed the bar to meet her Pilot fact to face." ? M. C. H.
