ASHEVILLE DAILIES SPONSORING FARM PROGRAM FOR WNC ( Continued from page one ) provement programs and many other things of like importance. '"A program of similar nature was started in Minnesota .about eight years ago and giving such remark able results that thg promoters, Fred erick E. Murphy and Charles E. Collison of the Minneapolis Tribune, have been secured to come to Ashe ville to tell us how they did it. The Asheville Citizen, The Asheville Times and radio _ staion WWNC are going to back this great and far reaching program. Since I have been asked to serve on the committee for Transylvania county in this promo tion work, I am very much interested in having _a splendid delegation of farmers and business men and wo men attend the meeting in Asheville December 14th and 15th. Already a number of men have agreed to go and take their cars which will afford ample transportation for all those who might not be able to go other wise. Five farmers and farm women from each township will be asked to attend a meeting in Asheville in or der to get a better knowledge of what this promotion program will mean to our country. This will be a supreme test of our interest in agricultural success." ARMISTICE DAY PROGRAM With the horror of another war overshadowing the brilliant future of the younger generation, Armistice Day was doubly important to high school students. The close proximi ty of the looming war tended to pre- 1 sent with stark reality the havoc and ruin wrought by the World War that the Armistice Day of thirteen | years ago concluded. Mr. Barrett, though an impromptu'speaker, deliv- 1 ered an interesting address which dealt not only with the joys in the 1 celebration of peace but also the ab horrence of the pending war. Such a forceful orator served to greatly enlighten us upon the veritabfe mean ing of world peace and the most effec- _ tive measures to (|nploy in obtaining j it. BOOK REPORTS To vary the mode of presenting a 1 book report, several of Miss Copp's i English classes illustrated their book | reports with pictures and posters. Sev- j eral of the most attractive displays have been posted on the bulletin board and all students have viewed them with keenest interest. As Prof. Jones remarked, "Our English room looks more like an English room than it ever has heretofore." JANE PEARCE INTERESTING CHAPEL PROGRAM Probably the most interesting talk given by a student in chapel this year, was the one which Margaret Full bright, representing the Home Eco nomics Department, gave last Thurs day. The topic of her speech was, "How to Keep Up-to-Date." In her discourse, she stated that by reading newspapers, good magazines and up liftinj* books, one might broaden his mind and keep "up-to-date", in the. true sense of the word.
