About twenty-five guests were pres
ent for the turkey dinner.
Later in the afternoon a miscellan
eous shower was given in honor of
the recent bride, Mrs. J. C. Hender
son.
The color scheme of pink and green
was beautifully carried out. A salad
course was served with green and
pink mints and hot chocolate. The

CANVASS COMMITTEE
The following persons were elected
on Saturday night, November 21st.
as Canvass Committee of the Rosman
Baptist church. The purpose of this
committee is to raise a fund for the
church this year. Those appointed
were: A. M. Paxton, J. B. Rodgers,
George Isreal. Vasco and Homer Man
ley and Misses Rosa McLean, Mildred
Watkins, Bonnie Sigmon, Beatrice
Sisk and Olga Fortenberry.
This committee will meet at Zion
church Friday Inight, Dec. 6th, at
7 :30 to make reports of their work.
The ladies on the committee will serve
cake and hot chocolate as refresh
ments. Final reports from this com
mittee will be made Sunday, Dec. 6th.

ed their new pastor, the Rev. E. E.
Yates, A large variety of useful
items were received. The Rev. and
Mrs. Yates wish to thank the people
for their thoughtfulness and goodness.

A birthday dinner was given at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Wash Whit
mire last Sunday, November 29th, in
honor of Mr. Whitmire's father, Mr.
Baxter Whitmire, who was 76 years
old. About 75 relatives and friends
were present.

ed on Main Stre Sunday afternoon

Wt'll, we hope you enjoyed your
Thanksgiving and turkey. Most of
us around here ate chicken at our
house, but we've learned the art of
feeling like it was turkey and enjoy
lnK it just about as much. We're
saving our turk for Christmas. But.
as we ve indicated, we were as proud
as the duece of our chick. We stuffed
ei just the same, had the bastiift, a
lot of gravy, the other trimmin's and
we were just about as thankful, in
fact more so, than we had ever been.
Heretofore Thanksgiving has been to
us merely another holidav. 'Twas the
forerunner of Christmas, and as such,
we were glad to see it. Thig time,
somehow it was different. We reallv
?f thanks. We felt more
grateful than we have ever felt We

all the things we have, without a
guiding hand, far beyond that of this
life, something more than human. For
the first time in the years of our ex
'stance, many of us realize the senti
ment of our Pilgrim Fathers, who
