I've worn my dresses thin and tight So they might well admit the light, And thus, the passing throng, delight, But now... it's over! N'ow though the gentle breezes blow, Dame Fashion bids me close the show; 1 must have collars to my ears And dresses long and wide, my dears ! The . M.Onor of these gifts not knowing until the next morning when he or she went out to feed their chickens or shell some corn or perhaps get some coal. Then the knowledge that they had unknowingly donated several chickens, a bushel or two of corn or perhaps a hundred pounds of coal, to some unknown sufferer. Now, it would be quite unfortunate ^f the benefitted should suffer the , y wtiiliation of having to visit a doctor K on account of a misdirected load of buckshot that was intended for a Km&V"// c. at or sheep killing dog. We WWon't mind helping people who need help. So if the person or persons who ihave been receiving these gifts will please communicate with us then wc will not be in the dark about whom we are furnishing aid. Also furnish dates on or about which nights some thing is to be donated and mention particulars about gift, then no one will likely shoot a stray cat or set a burglar alarm, as a visit will be an . ticipated and the gift will be crated n or suMtai and ready to be delivered. Most of us around here ate chicken at our house, but we've learned the art of feeling like it was turkey and enjoy lnK it just about as much. We're saving our turk for Christmas. But. as we ve indicated, we were as proud as the duece of our chick. We stuffed ei just the same, had the bastiift, a lot of gravy, the other trimmin's and we were just about as thankful, in fact more so, than we had ever been. Heretofore Thanksgiving has been to us merely another holidav. 'Twas the forerunner of Christmas, and as such, we were glad to see it. Thig time, somehow it was different. We reallv ?f thanks. We felt more grateful than we have ever felt We ' thj".k "no could pass th'rough all the things we have, without a guiding hand, far beyond that of this life, something more than human.
