You know, it seems that some people would rather starve to death than to boost something that is being boosted. We have in mind just now an incident that occured in connection with the activity in the mineral field. A New Mexico concern was making investigation of mineral deposits here, and a man was sent to Brevard to gather whatever information he could rtbvuc the minerals of the county, lie know his business rather well, and did more listening than talking. A copy of his report was an eye-opener, lie had heard, the report seid, 2*S men by actual count declare that there is no gold in this county; that all talk of mineral here is just some more of that "bull;" that a man is a fool to fool with mining or prospecting. All but three of tlfe men are property owners, the report says. We checked up on the list, and found that mortgages plaster most of the property owned by these men who were lambasting the prospect of making of our mineral prospects a paying industry. These men who were knocking the proposition had never, according to the report, seen any of the assay reports on ths deposits. They knew nothing at all about the matter, except they "jus' knew that there is no gold or anj other valuable mineral or ore in this ?section." Let's permit the men who know how to investigate the mineral prospects here complete their investigations without throwing cold water on the proposition. If the investigation is completed and nothing of value is found, there will be plenty of time tt talk about it. But if it should b< found that gold or other minerals oj ores can be mined here at a profit then every citizen of the county will be benefited. There are men in th< county now making investigation Let's help them, rather than hinde: or discourago them. It might be that your farm is on< that would be needed by those buyinj up land, and then you would b< directly benefitted. You will feel the good effects of it if your neighbor's place is in demand. Whatever money spent in the county will be that much extra money, and will be beneficial tc all people. Some people said the highway ti Casar's Head would never be com pleted. It is completed, and people are spending money in Brevarc because of that completion. Some people had long laughs aboul the opening of the new bank. Th? bank is here, and doing well. Some people had much to say aboui the cotton mill. It is running, righl now, with brighter prospects than i< ever before enjoyed. Some folks laughed about the probability of having Highway 28-1 through Pisgah National Foresl improved. Congress enacted a bill last Saturday, providing money for this very kind of work, and if we dc not get it for work on the Pisgah Forest part of the road it will be because we do not want it bad enough to write a few letters for it. If you do not want to help pull the load up the hill, for God's sake stop hanging on and pulling back down the hill. The United States govern ment has said that there is gold here; the State of North Carolina haa said that there is gold here; many leading citizens have said that there is gold here; high standing men have told about the tens of thousands of dollars worth of gold that has been mined here and sold. Get out of the knocking nine, and join the playing team., and play your part like a man. It will take all of us, working together, a decade or two to bring this community back to its proper place. Tlie more knocking that Is done, the harder will be the recovery. OUR GREENVILLE FRIENDS VISITING BREVARD. Last Sunday was a good day for visiting, and many Greenville people came to 3*ev&|d, evidently repaying viaits made by Brevard people in Grjenville Saturday. As an indication of the number of people in Brevard Sunday, 43 Greenville people iiad din ner at The Canteen, while other places were liberaly patronized. Tho Canteen kept count, however, and the actual figures were obtainable. Brevard and Transylvania county people can be seen in Greenville stores on Saturdays and on special I days, and every Sunday witnesses large numbers of Greenville people , in this section. The Greenville, papers 'and The Brevard Ntws had pictured these conditions long before work was begun on the Brevard-Greenville highway. Of course it is a source of ; gratification to be papersthe vbgkqj I gratification to the papers to see their predictions come true. When summer comes Brevard will Le filled to overflowing with our ?good neighbors in and about Green ville, God bless 'em, and the more | that come, the more we shall love them. "WHEN REAL ESTATE COMES HACK- IS ERRONEOUS WAY OF STATING THE CASE. So often we hear people say^hat so-and-so will take place " when real estate comes back." No one should so state the case. Real estate cannot come back, because real estate' has never left us yet, and it is the only basis of wealth that cannot leave us. Land is the only indestructable, im movable, imperishable thing that man ever possessed. We have had real es tate ? land ? since God blew a breath out into space and fashioned and molded this world of ours. Even the waters that were made in like man ner have changed and are still chang ing as the streams are drawn up in to regions above to fall as raindrops on this land of ours, and trickle back into the streams. But our land remains. It cannot i "come back," because it has never ' gone away. We have played the fool , with our real estate, our land, time i and time again. Every once in a [ while we go crazy, and boost prices, i and gamble on this land of ours, un i til the fluctuated value becomes top 1 heavy and tppples over, and then we ; play the fool again by deciding that ? land is not of - any value. There is i nothing tho matter with real estate in either event, and the only drawback , is to be found in the fool manner we , treat real estate in our feverish gambling hours. ) Instead of stating it as "When i real estate comes back," we should i say "when our senses come back," i real estate will be found right where i it always has been, the same provis ? ion in the creator's great plan. ? Can you imagine a nation that I boasts of civilization and Christian s ity placing a higher value upon . stocks and bonds than is placcd upon : lund? Study the two ? land Is God made, everlaatir.g, immovable, inde . structible. Stocks and bonds are > pieces of paper printed according to ? the order of man. And we have been > placing our confidence in these pieces i of paper as our basic wealth rather r than upon this land of ours. i Let us no longer excuse our own i ignorance and foolish actions, how ever, by referring to the proposition , of "Real estate coming back." All . value that has ever been depreciated > in real estate comes either through I our abuse of land, or through our foolish course in placing unbearable ; burdens upon land in the form of j taxation. PRAISES MOORE BOYS Kind Editor and Friends : I Naturally you are ? and of a right ? ought to be interested in your "Moore Boys." Thoy were my guests over the week-end and many years have passed since I have had visitors whom we enjoyed more than they and Mr. Carl Bosse. The inclosed program ? which I i hope you can publish ? will show to your readers why our faculty, visitors and student body, enjoyed their pres ence so greatly. Too, why we so sin cerely invite them to return and stay a "Long Time.'' ' The boys declare they enjoyed our "Rye" biscuits, and we hope that they enjoyed them, and will recall with as much pleasure having been here, as we, that them came here. Luck and love to everybody, MR. and MRS. H. E. BOUCHER AND MARY ANN. P. S. ? The Polish Dance, some thing real new, made its debut here, and was dedicated to me. H. E. B., Dean of Boys. Rabun Gap Nacoochee School, Rabun Gap. Ga. Feb. 23, 1932. STANDS WITH MRS. NORTON Editor The Brevard News: We noticed the article written in last week's paper by Mrs. Lee F. Norton of Oakland, concerning the , speech to be made by Small in Bre vard, March 3, against prohibition. We wish to congratulate her for the stand she has taken on this im portant subject If we had more women to take the firm stand Mrs. Norton has taken on this subject wo -think the whiskey business 'would soon be a thing of the past. Wfe think it would be positively ruinous to our boys and girls to have saloons back. ' j We have noticed that our reporter for Toxawav News failed to put hi the paper aoout the still being cap tured below Lake Taxaway Fans, three weeks ago. One man was cay) I tured and one escaped. There was a large quantity of whiskey cap tured by Wilke Owen. We think that if wo had more of ficers in Transylvania county lik? Wilke Owen It would not taV ? long to [put whiskey all out of the county. Wo think ho should have the hearty (support of every good citizen in the | county.
