i Society News and Club Activities j ?.-u ,l:iT PHI LATHE A CLASS MI'i' MONDAY IN CHURCH PARLOR The- Philathea class of the Baptist ' ehureh met in the church parlor Monday afternoon with Miss Loraine Payne. program leader, in charge and Miss Mary Frances Biggers hostess. Twelve members of the class were present to participate in the program and discussion. Miss Beryl Morgan rendered a short interesting talk on ''The Use of the Bible in the Sunday School," while Miss Marjorie Garren spoke on "What Sunday School means to me." Following the business meeting a social hour was enjoyed and the hostess served delightful refresh ments. The young ladies of the class ex tend a cordial invitation to all young women over twenty years age who arc not in Sunday school to visit and join the Philathea class. MA 7 HAT ASIAN CLUB MEETS WITH MRS. PAT KIMZEY Mrs. I'at Kimzey was hostess to the ladies of the Mathatasian club Thurs day afternoon at her home. Ten members of the club were present and or; guest, Mrs. Claude West. Mrs. If. E. Norwood presided and Mrs. t>!: v Orr had charge of the pro gram. ii. Orr used as her topic a dis < ion nf the life of George Wash ir.jr.'on and maniy interesting facts v. . re revealed concerning his life. The members discussed plans for the tree planting exercises which they will he'd during: the month but no ilefii'ito plans were made. Mr:. Pat Kimzey, Mrs. J. A. Glazem r and Mrs. J. B. Jones were appointed to serve on a nominating committee and Mrs. C. L. Newland Mrs. Ilunie Harris and Mrs. J. M. After the regular business session the scripture lesson "Guides in Life" was given by the President, Mrs. Pad 'iartsell, followed by a prayer. The program, which was the first if the Season of Prayer series was given by members of the Blanche B:\rrus Circle with Mrs. Roy Long in charge. The Fannie Heck circle had charge of the Season of Prayer program Wednesday afternoon and the Liv ingstone circle will bo in charge Thursday. Tranthaih, left Saturday for Oklahoma City, , Okla., to make final plans for his wedding ceremony which will be solemnized Saturday evening when he will ma rev Miss Anabel Gulick. Miss Gulick is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. h\ Gulick, of Oklahoma City and made many friends in Brevard during her extended visit here last summer with her sister, Mrs. J. F. Deaver, celebrat ed his 3rd birthday, anniversary Mon day afternoon, Feb. 29th at his home on West Main street. i Over thirty guests were present to enjoy the numerous games during the afternoon entertainment. , , Young Deaver having been born on the 29th of February celebrates his brithday only once every four years. Words can never express our deep, felt sorrow and loss. Life has taught us the sad lesson of inevitableness of friends remaining always together. We realize our loss will be another's gain, for we have counted you among our truest 'friends, feeling that when ycu were not with us in person at our j meetings, your spirit of good will and co-operation were. I hold in my hand a little token of renffmbrance which I wish to present to yon in behalf of Pisgah Chapter. OOL TEACHERS TO GET PAY ON THE 7TH "All the school teachers of the i county will receive one-'nalf of their1 month's pay, Monday March 7th," | Prof. J. B. Jones, superintendent of county schools announced Monday. The remaining half will not be ob tained until the latter part of the month. Prof. Jones believes. Prof. J. B. Jones Wednesday .-aid j that he had received $700.00 from the state equalization board to pay gasoline bills and repair, bills for ther county school busses. Nicholson is improving from a recent critical illness and it is expected that she will be brought home from the hospital before many days have passed. Sevier Nicholson of Asheville, was a Brevard visitor Tuesday. Miss Janie Strickland, commerieal teacher in the Brevard High school was a Greenville visitor Saturday. Calloway Nicholson of Asheville was a Sunday visitor of Miss Rubenia Nicholson. Mr. and Mrs. Iloyd Thompson of Shelby were Brevard visitors during the week. R. E. Lawrence of- Canton was a Brevard visitor during the early days of the week. Howard Lyon, son of Mr, and Mrs. R. B. Lyon, of Asheville spent the week-end as guest of Frances Plum mer. Ernest Gibbs, who has lived in Brevard during the past year and a half, during the time he was con nected with the State Highway com mission, has moved to Asheville, where he is in the employ of the Standard Oil company. Mrs. James L. Cobb, of Belton, S. is spending several days with her husband, Dr. J. L Cobb, who is con nected with the Macfie Drug com pany. Mrs. Cobb and her son James, will move from Belton to make their home in Brevard when the young fel low's school is out. ENTERTAIN LADIES AT MASONIC LODGE Many members of the Eastern Star and women from Masonic homes were ; entertained last Thursday evening by members of Dunn's Rock Masonic Lodge, in the lodge rooms. Games were playod by the men and women that were, apparently, enjoyed by all. Many song numbers added to the pleasure of the evir.ing and refresh ments were served at the close of the social hour. Dr. J. F. Zachary, Sam Allison and C. O. Robinson had charge of the program. The ladies are returning the compliment at an ear'.y date, when the Masons are to be guests of the Eastern Star.
