DISTRICT DEPUTY GRAND MATRON VISITS EASTERN STAR i A very instructive, inciting of Pis ;;ah Chapter No. 198, Order of the Eastern Star, wna held Tuesday ev ening', May Sid, in the Masonic Hall, with the degree team of the Twelfth District exemplifying the ritualistic work of the Order in a beautiful and impressive manner. Mrs. Minnie K. Lewis, district deputy grand matron, ir. her usual charming manner called attention to the rccent changes in the ritual, which were authorized by the General Grand Chapter. There were about thirty-five visit ing members present, and at the con clusion of the meoting a social period was enjoyed during which refresh ments, consisting of sandwiches, cake and coffee, were served, the hostesses being Miss Catherine Moffitt, Mrs. Joan Jenks, Miss Reba AshwOrth and Mrs. Arabella Houston. JOINT HOSTESSES ENTERTAIN WITH PARTY Misses^ Ruby Edmundscn, Virginia Cansler and Faye Hollingsworih < n tertained a number of their friends with a delightful party Thursday evening at the home of Miss Hollings worth in the Pisgah National Forest. Many ? enjoyable games were played during the evening. The following guests were present: Misses Dorothy Souther, Myrtle Wil son, Nadine Av^ry, Aileen Neil!, Reba Nicholson and Annie Mae Ed mundson. Messrs. Charles Mul!, Bud Neiil, James Mills, Van O'Keiley, Reuben Mackey, Roger Cansler, Cluster and Carrnon West and Mr. Clifford Wijiiarns who is a visitor here f:om Tennessee. Refreshments of candy, cookies and lemonade were served. CHILDREN OF CONFEDERACY MEET WITH ANNIE JEAN GASH Nineteen members of the Children of the Confederacy met at the home of Miss Annie Jean Gash Monday afternoon for their regular monthly meeting. Miss Gash had the afternoon's pro gram and she read a story which she plans to enter in a contest, on civil war days. At the conclusion of the program delicious refreshments we're served by the hostess ar.d the meeting was ad journed. The next meeting will be held at Camp" Transylvania Monday June 1, when the members will enjoy a swimming party. SARAH TAYLOR CIRCLE TO MEET MONDAY AFTERNOON The Sarah Taylor Circle of lh"c Brevard Methodist church will meet at the home of Mrs. 0. H. Orr Mon day evening for its regular monthly session. | ASHRVILLE PRESBYTERY CIRCLE Representatives of the Brevard Davidson River Womans Auxiliary of the Presbyterian Church left Wed nesday for Swananoa where they will attend the meeting of the Asheville Presbytcrial Circle which convenes there for three days, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The representatives include: Mrs. S. P. Verner, Miss Annie Jean Gash, Miss Julia Deaver, Mrs. W. M. Cloud. The local Presbyterian Auxiliary is looking forward at this time to the ; annua] birthday party which has. be come an event of note. I Fifteen members of the club were j present to hear Mrs. Simon's well j prepared discourse on 'Modern Poet j i\v." During the course of the pro J gram, Mrs. Simons read a number of modern poems among which was a poem written by Mrs. Mary Hampton .Mills, Brevard's own author. The poem read: Yesterday I found a maple clothed in crimson dress, An old cocoon, a robin's nest. 1 heard two doves cooing of love On a limb of the oak tree just above My cottage. Oh, T love the little things That tell of Spring. . . The brook's low murmur, violets sweet, Orchards budding, bees a-wing, Cowslips blooming, vines that cling To my cottage walls, Robins hopping in the grass, .Frogs a-croaking as I pass The tiny stream a-down the hill. . .
