Dec The greatest savers of time and energy for the farm housewife of North Carolina would be the establishment of run ning water, electric light current and heating systems, in the farm homes of the state. "If we could place just these three things in every home in North Caro-i lina, we would see the standard of living rise, so fast, it would be diffi cult to catch its skirt's as it passed by," says Mrs. Jane S. McKimmon, assistant director of extension at State college. '"These are the greatest time savers that could be bestowed on the housewife. Work is reduced tremen dously when there is water in the house. No useless trotting to pump or hydrant and back again dozens of times daily and no extra steps in disnosing of waste water." Thirty-three per cent of 40,000 coun try women recently reported that thev had. water piped to their kitchens and 47 per cent stated that they had it on the back porch. This is the aver age for the whole, country, states Mrs. ' McKimmon, while North Caro lina does not do so well. Out of 518 farm homes in this state, where m inventory was made, only one-third had a supply of water available at To.the people of Macon County and to our customers ..... '. from without the county and to those beyond the State line; we thank you for making the past year the best in our history and we sincerely wish for you and yours during the Yuletide and coming year "Peace and Good Will toward all men" and all the Joys and Prosperity attendant thereon. SLOAN BROTHERS & ww tn, vv ' the house and less than one-fifth of the 518, had water piped into the kitchen and a sink installed. The record of farm lighting plants is better,' she states. Nearly all of the 518 homes had such plants and the state is up to the average in this respect but each rural home should have this power. When it comes to heating plant; most country i homes are heated by wood-burning fireplaces or stoves. Few homes have furnaces, Less than twe per cent of the homes in 'the small villages are so , equipped, the fur nace saves much labor and gives a more uniform heat over the whole house. It also helps to keep down sickness. North Skeenah Locals We are having very cold weather in this section. It might have been on account of the ' double wedding we had in this section Sunday.
