an A. B., "summa cum laude," was
an honor graduate and valedic
torian, and won Nabor's Scholar
ship Medal and a Wylie four-year
scholarship, the . University of
Georgia, Duke University, the Uni
versity of Paris?as a Carnegie fel
low?, the University of Heidle
berg, and the University of Ten- :
nessee. She-did special study in
Spanish with Dr. Roberto Brenes
Mesen, Costa Rican statesman,!
poet, philosopher, educator, and
former ambassador to Washington. I
Dr. Mesen is now Professor Emeri- i
tUfl of Northwestern University and
lives in San Jose, Costa Rica.

center, Chicago.
She has developed two hobbies,
painting and poetry, to profession;)!
levels, and has done a good deal '
of research and writing for publi- I
cation, especially on Symbolism
and Symbol.sts, Mysticism and |
Mystics. She has done illustrations j
for a number of ai tides and books, i
among them Anatole France's I
Penguin Island and some of her
own original sonnets.
Funeral Services Held
For Cabe Infant
Funeral services were held Sat-.'
urday morning at M o'clock at I
Wilkesdale Baptist church for
James Cecil Cabe, 19 months old
son of Mr. and Mrs. Loney Cabe, I
Jr. The child passed away Thurs
day evening at 9:30 o'clock follow
ing a week's illness. I
Rev. Jarvis Underwood conduct
ed the funeral. Burial was in the
East Fork cemetery.
The baby is survived by his par
ents and his grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. Loney Cabe, Sr. and Mr. and
Mrs. Nathan Daves.

Old Time Fiddlers'
Convention At Maggie
On n e x t Saturday ev(*ning,
April 5th, beginning at 7:45 and
lasting till midnight, the annual
Old Time Fiddlers' convention will
be held at the Maggie schoolhouse
in Haywood county. Several Jack
son people and bands will parti
cipate. This event is held each year
on Saturday before Easter. They
plan to make this year's one of the
best yet. $3o will be given in spe
cial prizes.
All bands of this section are in
vited to take part and may enter
up to time for the convention by
contacting Roger Ferguson, prin
cipal of the Maggie school, in per
son, by mail, or phond.

Dr. H. T. Hunter, president of
Western Carolina Teachers college,
celebrated his sixty-fourth birth
day by giving an informal party
apartment in the Ferguson apart
ment house which was recently va
cated by Mrs. M. Buchanan, Jr.
M. V. Higdon has been in Atlanta
for the past two weeks with Mrs.
Higdon's sister, Mrs. Wiley King.
Mr. and Mrs. Higdon went down
for a visit, Mr. Uigdon developed
llu and had to remain when Mrs.
Higdon returned to her home.
Harry Hastings has returned to
Blue Ridge school for boys after
spending the spring holidays with
his mother, Mrs. H. R. Hastings.
