On Saturday evening the Camps with Mr. and Mrs.. Kirk | attended the Folk Festival at Cherokee. of Manor, Ga., formerly of Gay, will regret to hear of her serious illness. Mr. J. C. Browning, who was operated on at Moore VA hos pital, is getting along nicely. Mr. Sam Buchanan and son, Howard, have gone to Manor, Ga., to be with his sister, Mrs. Ed Her rin, who is quite ill. Little Kathleen Ridley is able to be out again after being con fined to her room for several days w th mumps. Mr. and Mrs. James Rogers have announced the birth of a son, James Robert, on November 3. Mr. and Mrs. Perley Hyatt and family were guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Green were honored Saturday evening with a shower at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Perry R. Hyatt. Mrs. Green re ceived a number of lovely gifts. The guests were served coca-colas and cake. Mrs. M. Buchanan, Sr., and Mrs. Carl Buchanan returned Saturday from Winston-Salem where they had gone earlier in the week to take the latter's mother, Mrs. A. M. Henson, who is a patient at the Baptist hospital there. Enroute home they spent Friday night in Hendersonville with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Buchanan. Ray Ashe, student at State Col lege, Raleigh, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. Walter Ashe. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Allison spent the week-end in Raleigh with Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Rand. On Saturday Mrs. Allison attended Home-com ing at Duke and Mr. Allison at tended the Carolina-State game. Mr. Allison returned home Sun day but Mrs. Allison is spending this week in Roxboro with her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Daniel Lane. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Southard were in Macon county the first of the week visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Southard, and other relatives. Smith and two children, John and Anne, arrived in New York Monday from Bombay* India, where Mr. Smith has been with the Standard Com pany for a number of years. Mr. Smith left here in July, 1944, to return to India after a six months' vacation. Mrs. Smith i and the children have been there since February, 1946. They will arrive in Sylva Thursday to visit Mrs. Smith's mother, Mrs. C. Z. Candler, and sister, Miss Margaret Candler. pel Hill wittrMr. and Mrs. Orville Coward, Miss Barbara Bess and Kent Coward. Miss Bertha Cunningham, who has been making her home with Miss Sadie Queen for sometime, has taken an apartment in the home of Mrs. Dora Lee Collins. Rev. T. F. Deitz, who has been quite ill at his home at Beta, is able to be out again, his frienls will be glad to learn. Miss Zunita Wakefield, who is Religious Education director and Minister of Music at the West Asheville Presbyterian church, will spend from Thursday to Sat urday with her parents, Rev. and Mrs. W. H. Wakefield. Rev. Wake field has recently accepted the pas torate of the Sylva Presbyterian congregation and he and his wife occupy the Cook residence east of Sylva.
