W.O.W. And Woman's
Circle Have Dist. Meeting
The W. O. W. and Woman s Cir
cle of Western North Carolina held
their semi-annual district meeting
Saturday, Oct. 16, in Brevard with
members from each camp present.
The W. O. W.'s met in the Amer
ican Legion building and the Wom
an's Circle met in the Masonic Hall
in the afternoon. Clyde Bumgarner
made a report for the Tuckaseigee
camp, No. 560.
Adjournment for supper at
Gaither's Cafeteria was at 5:00 p.
m. At 7:00 p. m. they met together
to hear the principle address by
Mr. Nick Newberry, State manager
of W.O.W. of North Carolina. After
adjournment at 8 o'clock the group
met in the high school stadium for
the Brevard-Christ School^ foot
ball game, after which they enjoy
ed a square dance^here

were Britton Moore, district man
ager, Carroll Glenn Ashe, Clyde
Bumgarner, and Olin Boone Jack
son of East LaPorte.
The next convention will be held
at Hickory in the Spring.

Shower For Mrs.
Everett Henry Given
On Wednesday night, Oct. 13,
Mrs. Jim Hill and Mrs. Earl Fisher
were host sses at a shower in hon
or of Mrs. Everett Henry of Wil
lets. Mrs. Henry is the former
Miss Margie Hoyle.
After the honoree opened her
lovely gifts, Mrs. Hill and Mrs.
Fisher served cake and coffee to
the forty-five guests present.
Twentieth Century Club
Has Regular "Meeting
The Twentieth Century Club
held its regular meeting with Mrs.
Dan K. Moore Thursday afternoon
at 3:00 p. m. with a good number
present.
Mr. Ben Cole, Sylva band direc
tor, had charge of - the program.
With four members of his band,
William Henry, Lloyd Kirk, Chas.
Reed, and Dickie Wilson, they gave
several very' good selefctions.
Mrs. Dan Tompkins read the
year book with .the programs and
hostesses for the year.
Mrs. Andrew Pearson from Ral
eigh and Kentucky was a special
guest for the meeting. Mrs. Pear
son is a native of North Carolina.
She is the niece of Col. A. B. An
drews who built the railroad thru
here, also a grand- daughter of
Mr. Fowl, a former North Caro
lina governor.
Mrs. Moore, assisted by her
daughter, Ed.th, served a salad
and swtet course to her guests.

Ruby Daniel Circle
Has Meeting
The Ruby Daniel Circle met in
a group at the Professional Drug
Store Thursday night, Oct. 14, and
att nded in a group the revival
meeting at the Baptist Church.
After the service they went to

the home of Mrs. Roger Dillard to
help her celebrate her birthday.
Mrs. Dillard's cake was cut and
served with ice cream to the guests.
They had as their special guests
Rev. and Mrs. C. M. Warren, the
Rev. W. P. Milne, Jr., and Mr. Lee
Walker.
Miss Cannon Is Married
To Wade Wilson
The marriage of Miss Rebecca
Sue Cannon, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. M. B. Cannon of Dillsboro,
and Walter Wade Wilson, son of
Mrs. John H. Wilson of Sylva and
the late Mr. Wilson, was solemniz
ed ?n Saturday, Oct. 16 at 5.00 p.
m. at the Dillsooro Methodist
church, with the pastor, Rev. W.
Q. Grigg, performing the ceremony.
Xhe church was decorated with
four seven branched candelabra
holding cathedral tapers and bas
kets of white mums, white glad
ioli and Oregon fern before a back
ground of spruce. Candles and
greenery were used in the win
dows.
A program of wedding music
was presented by Mrs. Grover
W.Ikes, pianist, and Mrs. William
Hall, cousin of the bride, soloist.
Mrs. Wilkes played Schubert's
"Ave Maria" and "Serenade" and
during the ceremony "To A Wild
Rose" by McDonwll was softly
played. Mrs. Hall sang " I Love
Thee" by Greig and "O Perfect
Love" by Barnby was sung as the
benediction.
The bride, who was given in
marriage by her father, wore a
gown of white satin made on prin
cess lines with a yoke of French
illusion outlined with a btrtha of
the satin. The full skirt extended
into a circular train. The full
length sleeves with calla lily points
and the bodice were trimmed in
small covered buttons. Her veil of
illusion was finger tip length and
worn attached to a coronet of sa
tin trimmed in seed pearls and

Regular Meeting

of the Sylva Woman's club which
was held at the home of Mrs. Cyrus
H. Nicholson on Tuesday evening.
Mr. Smith talked on the schools
j of the nation in general and of
the school situation in N. C. He
told of the needs of the local
schools and urged the patrons to
vis.t the schools and learn of these
needs from seeing for themselves*,
and urged the co-operation of all
lhe people.
The business hour was presided
over by the president, Miss H.cks
Wilson.

wiches, cookies, and coca colas to
the 20 members present.

After the reception the couple
left for a wedding trip and on their
return will reside in Dillsboro. For
traveling the bride wore a dark|
gray wool suit with dark green!

Jackson County Bank.
Mr. Wilson received his educa
tion at Sylva High School and In
dustrial Training Institute, Chica
go. He served for two years with
the U. S. Navy during World War
II. He is now employed by the I
Mead Corporation in Sylva.

per to about 25 guests which in
cluded the wedding party, families'
of the br de and bridi-groom, and
out-of-town guests.

Master Bascombe Hughes was

Kindergarten. Bascombe was five
