CARSON-NEWMAN
McGinn Sets Pace
With 18 Markers
Jefferson City, Tenn.?Bob McGinn's
18 points paved the way for
a 45-41 comeback victory for the
Western Carolina Catamounts
over the Carson-Newman Eagles
here Monday night. It was the
second time this season that the
Eagles have fallen before the Cats.
Trailing 15-21 at intermission
the Cats came out strong for the
last half and caught up with 10
minutes to spare. Then they
strung along holding the lead the
rest of the way.
Clyde Pressley was second for
the Cats with 11 points. Joe Bean
and George Wade *ea the Carson- I
Newman five with J2 each.

Bob McGinn
For North Si
301 Points Is
Tops In Circuit \ J
Bob McGinn, Western Caro- jj
lina's pointmaking guard, is set-;
ting a hot pace in the race for in- .
dividual scoring honors in the |
North State Conference. A big
splurge sent him zooming 37 points j
ahead of his nearest contender
through games of Saturday night.
McGinn jumped out front in the
race early in the season, and although
he dropped to within five
points of the second place man'
two weeks ago, he has not relinguished
the lead. I
During last week McGinn count- j
ed 49 points running his season's1
total to 301, 37 points better than
Walser of Catawba.
Last year McGinn gave fair j
the final week of play. He led the
conference through the last two
weeks, taking over top spot irom
teammate Bob Tate. But Big Ted j
Moran of High Point played three j
more tournament games than did '
McGinn and won the scoring hon- j
ors during those three final games.
This year it seems that the "Ace" j "
is taking no chances. He wants to <
sew up the thing before tournament
time, so just in case the Cats . \
get knocked out of play early, he ' J
will have goal accomplished. ' \
Yet he is not showing individu- ^
ality in making his points. He
never hogs the ball on the fast
break. If a teammate has an (
equal chance of making the goal
McGinn can always be counted .
on to pass off. But, as the fans
already know, the majority of 1
McGinn's points are made out
front.
