Only two Sylva players were placed on first teams, Nell Green on the girls, and Jack Cunninghame on the boys. STATE TOURNEY Appalachian Goes Down In Finals 57-55 Lenoir-Rhyne's Bears, the team that finished sixth in regular season play, rolled to the North State Conference tournament championship Saturday night by defeating the Appalachian State Mountain- j eers 57-55 in the tourney finals j at Elkin. Sylva's lassies were to go byr Highlands in the opening round, but were doped to lose to Nantahala in the quarter-finals, Instead they won the game 35-31 and won their way to the semifinals where thep upset Andrews 41-39 on Audrey Lane Bryson's last minute field goal. Then in the finals, with Peggy Painter leading the way with 20 points the Hurricane knocked ofl Hiwassee 31-30 to win the tournament.
