Thursday, Feb. 23,1950 Mrs. Mary-Hen Sylva (Special) ? Mrs. Mary Henry who makes her home with a son, W. D. Henry of Ochre Hill community, observed her 103rd birthday anniversary February 4. She. is the oldest living person in Jackson County. Mrs. Henry, granddaughter of the late John C. Calhoun, former senator; and vice president, is a native of Walhalla, S. C. Mrs. Henry is the former Miss Mary Dorsey. She married the late Carelious Henry who died in 1922. To this union were born six children, three daughters and three sons. The sons, all living, are W. H. W. Henry, 75 years of age; and Alex, 73. She also has 48 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 28 great great grandchildren, and 15-great great great grandchildren. Her chief hobby is listening to the radio and entertaining company. She enjoys taking a lonp walk down to the spring during warm weather, and is looking forward to summer time when she can sit on the front porch and watch the traffic pass by. When asked if she uses glasses to read she said: "You know, 1 didn't go to school a day in my life. We never knew what f school building was in those days. However, I used to wear glasses but somehow they left me severa years ago, or I left them, one." Mrs; Henry is recognized for citing history during the War Between the States. She cites an instance when the Tories shot an killed three of her uncles. "Yes," she said, "I was standing only ; lew yards away when they begar firing, and one of the shots jus brushed my hair."
