That is the very thing, how ever, that we are going to do at our service this coming Sunday night at the Baptist Church, when we shall take as our theme "WHAT MUST A PERSON The word "DAMNED", means condemned of God. The word, however, is a much more and carries much more meaning to our minds it brings up at once, doesn't it, the most wful consequences imaginable. We will preach on them, as well as upon some' other things, Sunday t night " ..f. " A short time ago the Com pany selling the Bonds of the county wished to know if we wished to buy some of them and what would we give par and accrued interest and a re ply came that we could only buy them for 103.5. That means that Madison County under the later hoards of commissioners have raised the credit of the county, to the poiont where its bonds are above par. We won der if Madison is out of the gen eral run of counties in that she has a sinking fund to redeem her bonds, v If we could have bought them par it would have meint Mat .quite" a large sum would have been saved to the cpunty each year. , However, to buy them at a premium would mean that we would gain nothing by selling theru and in fact would not haye the use of the money in the county. As it is we are holding, the sinking fund ami getting 4 per cent on it compounded quarterly. We are hoping that in managing the counties finances we may be let alone for a time to see if the debt may not be paid off when due. . .If we bond the county for more It means , that we ; cannot pay off th5 old and also-that the tax rate will increase. The laws that have been made in giving cirtain things to the county means if carried out more bonds 1 and more taxes. The rateasit is, is high. To increase th 1.1 . Donas means mat every one will have to pay more still That this is a popular measurq is not to be thought. In scek-t ing to serve certain sections oil the county sometimes the legis lature does an injustice toother parts. We do more than wc are doing would mean increased debt and therefore increased tax to meet the interest? Wc are hoping that we may not have to do this as Madison coming in to her own should not be thrown backward in line of progress. Forks of Ivy. The farmers iri this section are progressing nicely with their work. ' J. 3. Ledford and B. F. Wyatt are selling all the goods they can and seem to be getting along nicely with their business.
