About this time each year, just as the basketball sea son is over, we begin to wOnder what is tad take placje in the way of sports during the next few months. In many coun ties they have winter meetings where plans are made for various athletic events to be held the following summer. Perhaps if interested men and women from Marshall, Mars Hill, Hot Springs, and other places could get together and discuss our possibilities, something could be worked out. The Madison County Baseball League, is a fine thing and should be continued.. The same applies to other nearby baseban leagues, of wfcfch Marshall member. We be lieve that if a softbali league was organized which includ ed teams from Marshall, Mars Hill and Hot Springs, that much enjoyment could be derived from the sport It would not be too difficult to have a men's division and a ladies division. Some of the best softbali teams ye've seen were women's teams. .; r Two nights a week could be devoted to softbali and many who have to work in the day time'could see and play At night. A regular schedule could be worked out with a series planned for the early Fall. - We believe that it would certainly be a financial success besides affording many. This news, as a rule, would not cause us to lift an eyebrow. Coming at this particular time, however, it is very disappointing because Congress man Monroe Redden had arranged an exclusive interview with the President by the Western North Carolina Press Association. The President's unexpected vacation plans, of course, means that we will not have this honor. 1 ' We hope that President Truman didn't arrange this vacation ju&L becau&e we were scheduled to be there.
