The speaker's table which occu pied practically the width of the pic- turesque recreational room of the -, new church was beautifully decorated - with a huge vase of flowers in the center. Officers of the club, their , .-wives and guests and the principal celebrities were seated at this table. - In front of the speaker's table, were numerous tables, all beautifully dec- ; orated for the occasion. Greene Is ilnjured In Car Wreck Near Alexander George Landon Greene, 46, Mar shall attorney, was admitted to Me morial Mission Hospital shortly af ter 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon after- his 1941 Dodge sedan struck the side of a tractor-trailer on US 25-70 at Alexander and turned over in the highway. Mr. Greene suffered several lacer ations in 'the face, two broken ribs and a bruised hip. His condition is reported good. ' State Highway Pa trolman C. H. Rector, wh0 investiga ted the accident, said Greene was driving his car north on 25-70 and the tractor-trailer, said to have been driven by Ed Frisby, 46, of Elber ton,. Ga.( was traveling Bouth. Rec tor said the latter vehicle belonged to Frisby and was leased by Harper Motor Lines, Elberton. . There were no arrests, Rector said Frisby was uninjured. Fortnerj 61, a retired businessman of Marshall, died of a heart attack Tuesday morning in a Monroe hospital. l-merly a postal clerk here, he was a Mason, Shriner, deacon and treasurer of the Marshall Baptist Church. Surviving are the widow, the for mer Mrs. Jessie Hendrix Warner, one brother, B. G. Fortner of Mar shall; one stepson, Albert Edward Warner, Jr.; one foster-daughter, Mrs. Clarence P. Jenkins of Ashe ville; and a number of nieces and nephews, including Elmer and Ray mond Robinson of Asheville. Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 8 o'clock in Marshall Baptist Church. The Rev. W. D. Williamson, the Rev. C. M. White, the Rev. A. K. Cheek, and the Rev. A.
