"Well, you see," explained the flellow, "the leaf was from the center of our dining room table." When singing "God Bless Amer ica," a little four-year-old girl sang it this way "Stand be side her, and guide her, with the light through the night from a bulb." Crowe Reunion Held Last Sunday On ' Island In Marshall Last Sunday, August 5 the an nual Crowe Reunion was held on the Island in Marshall. It was quite an inspiring sight to see the 84-year-old Mrs. Crowe being greeted by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a kind word and a smile for all her kinspeople and many friends who had come to pay their respects to her. After a bountiful lunch, all gathered in the lunchroom, sang and talked over old times. Most of the singing was done by the Davis Chapel church choir and quartet. It was agreed to meet again the 1st Sunday in August, 1957. "Are you putting in a station- to-station call?" asked the long distance operator when a minis ter in Hoboken called a minister in Omaha. "No," he answered, "it's a par- svBr-to-parson call." PLENTY OF EVEQYDAY LOW PDICES Scr ""j BREAD AND BUTTER STYLE FADJGS PICKLES 15-Oz. CANS 2Cc JAUAKDJZLY DAYS ARE IIZIE, HINTS GIVEN Here it is almost time when we are going to be busy potting' up jams, jellies and preserves. The fact it I have already tried new recipe using the combination of rhubarb and strawberries. It's good, too. And, in the process I tried another new idea which works beautifully. Instead of using paraffin to seal the jars I used Saran Wrap and it is so much easier nd far less work. Here is how to do it in case you would like to try it and pass the idea along. After you have poured the jam or jely into the hot sterile glass es, then cover with squares of saran film. Be sure the edges of the glasses have been wiped clean of any preserves. Full the saran film down all around the edges just as tightly as possible. It is important to seal the glass es while the glasses and preserves are still hot for then there will be just enough heat to shrink the saran film and make it airtight, if you have pulled it tightly enough. If you want to stack the glasses for storage use metal covers over the top of the glasses. Another trick I) have found help ful is the labeling. Make labels and then stick them on the side of the glasses with transparent tape. The tape holds down loose ends of the film. This is really a work-saving idea. It eliminates the need of A PRINCE OF PLEBE ; West Point, N. Yi Prince Al bert of Belgium, the 21-year-old rother of King Badoudin, became plebe at West Point for a day recently. He ate in the cadets' mess hall, slept in their barracks end attended class with them. A Seattle chest X-ray worker thought she saw a familiar face in the line of persons being X rayed, asked the woman if she hadn't already had an X-ray. "Certainly," replied the wom an. "I've had three already. The first didn't help me, but after the second one I began feeling a lot better. I don't have to quit taking treatments, do 17" Used Pianos FOR SALE r HOME ELECTRIC & FURNITURE CO. TV melting and pouring paraffin. I never tan get all the paraffin in the glasses some invariably spills on the counter and down the sides of the glasses. No mes.sj pan to clean up afterwards, ei ther. Also, it will keep the space between the jam and the top of the glass free from dust, dirt, etc., until you are ready to use the preserves. 1 hope you will want to try this idea simple though it is, it surely saves time and extra work.
