The public and all special singers, such as duets, trios,, quaa-tets and choirs, are cordially invited to attend. Charles Sprinkle closed the reviv er meeting at our church Friday night. A large crowd attended. Every one enjoyed the good ser mons by Mr. Sprinkle. Sunday was our annual decora tion and homecoming. A large crowd attended, and everyone en joyed -the day. Mr. Eugene Henderson of River Rouge, Mich., spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Henderson. Mr. and Mrs. Joe v,Payne and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Baker and family spent Sunday with Mrs. Jake Worley. Mrs. John Henderson, returned home after a week's visit with friends and relatives in Michigan. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Baker of Morganton spent Saturday night with Mr. and Mrs-. Paul Hender son. Mrs. W. H. Roberts and Mrs. Hester Caldwell spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Ruble Caldwell and family. Miss Gladys Worley left Sun day for Cincinnati, Ohio to visit her sister, Miss Thelma Worley. Singing Convention Is Postponed To September 22 The singing convention original ly scheduled for August 25, has been postponed until September 22 for Bear Creek Baptist Church. RICHARD FREEMAN - v ' Following The Stock Car Races At Atheville Asheville, Aug. 23 The first protest of the racing season was registered Saturday night at Mc Cormiek Field Speedway when 3- time sportsman winner Ned Jar rett of Newton filed an official protest against R. L. Combs' vic tory. Jarrett led the 40-lap race for 37 laps but on the second turn of the 38th lap Jarrett and Bobby Waddell of North Wilkeaboro col lided and Combe, a North Wilkes- boro driver, took the lead. Jar rett's protest claimed Combs had taken the lead under the red (stop) flag. NASCAR officials will judge the protest. Jarrett still finished second and Waddell third. Ed Cox of Ashe ville won the amateur feature the eighth different winner in 8 races. Speedway officials announced today a 200-lap Amateur Team Championship race will he run this Saturday nitrht in addition to a popular Powder Puff Derby, featuring women drivers. Time trials for the amateurs will begin Grand Prairie, Texas Robert Helen and Jlra. Edward Bennett, identical twiwgave birth to babies two hours apart at a 'Mi pit.1 in Dallae. ' Mrs. Helen had a son and Mrs. Bonnet a daughter. Each Bister now has a family of a girl and a boy. Their husbands work for the same firm here. , at 7 p. m. The races will start at 8:00. Thirty amateur cars will be en tered as 16 teams. Only one car from each team will be allowed on the track at the same time during the race. When one car makes a pit atop, its partner will hi, nntn th track. Both cars in each team will be numbered the same. The amateurs will run for a 81,200 purse, including $300 for first. Amateur racing has grown by leaps and bounds since racing be gan here June 16. Saturday night, 30 cars showed up for the amateur race and 25 placed in the money. The Powder Puff Derby will feature an unlimited number of women drivers from Western North Carolina. They will drive regular stock cars.
