Mrs. Gosnell ( Friday, Aug. 17, the HD Club of Grapevine met in the home of Mrs. Arvil Gosnell. The meeting was called to order by Mrs. James H. Arrington, who presided in the absence of our president, Mrs. Hazel Proffitt Mrs. J. D. Gos nell was in charge of devotions, using the 34th Psalm for the Scripture reading; prayer by Mrs. Ebb Crowe. We all sang together, "Down In the Valley." Old busi ness being taken care of, planning for Achievement Day was present ed as new business by 'our agent, Mrs. Ethel Wallin. Grapevine took as its project "Tips on Home Canning & Freezing." A commit tee to take charge of this was appointed as follows: Miss Judy Gosnell, Miss Judy Ann Coates, and Mrs. James H. Arrington. Achievement Day being Sept 22, on Island in the Marshall School Building, is planned for a place for exhibits. All members are asked to please attend and each member brings a covered dish to be served as lunch, all eating to gether. Our home agent then pre sented interesting facts on plan ning the bathroom, showing dif ferent materials to use, their advantages. The meeting was dismissed by all repeating together the Collect for Club Women. Burnett Pictured above is the late Ber tram E. Burnett, 70, of Mars Hill, RFD 3, who died unexpectedly Thursday, August 9, 1962. He was the son of the late James P. and Kate English Bur nett, of the English community. Mr. Burnett was also the nephew of the late Dr. I. E. Burnett and Dr. O. V. Burnett, of Mars HilL Mr. Burnett was a well-known farmer and lumberman and was considered one of the most careful school bus drivers in the history of Madison County. For more than 25 yeras he drove school bus es without a serious accident and was the recipient of the Safe Driv ing Award during the tenure of office of Mrs. Edna G. Rhodes. Mr. Burnett attended Mars Hill College and was a veteran of World War I. Myers, 45, whose wife, Evelyn, lives at 139 Smokey Park hwy., Asheville, recently was a warded the Army Commendation Medal while serving with the Sup port Branch, Headquarters Com mand in Vietnam. Sergeant ; Myers, a construction inspector with the branch entered the Army in 1937 and arrived ov erseas on this tour of duty in January 1962. The sergeant is the son of Rob ert A.
