Mrs. John McLean, Mrs. Eva Sams, and Mr. and Mrs. Talmage McLean attended the funeral of Mrs. Albert Cox in Dunean, S. C, last Friday. Mrs. Cox was a sis ter of Mrs. McLean and Mrs. Itam sey. Dr. and Mrs. J. L. McElroy and their son and daughter, David and Diana, left this morning (Thurs day) for Fairfax, Virginia to vis it Dr. and Mrs. McElroy's son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. McElroy Jr., and granddaugh ter, Laura. Also, accompanying the McElroys on the trip was Mrs. Wiley M. Roberts, mother of Mrs. McElroy. They will spend the week-end in Fairfax and return home on Tuesday. Mr, Wayne Farmer and Mr. Harry Walters, of Charlotte, spent last week-end here with Mr. Farm er's father, Mr. William B. Farm er. B. Ramsey spent Sunday in Cullowhee where she attended the graduation exercises at West ern Carolina College. Among the graduates was Johnny Ramsey, nephew of L. B. Ramsey, who re cceived his Bachelor of Science degree in education. Johnny, who is a former resident of Marshall, and his wife reside in the Arden section. Miss Genell fox of Asheville and MtssAktesh Waldrup of Mar shall returned Wednesday night from a week's tour of Virginia, including Roanoke, Richmond, Wil liamsburg and other points. They also visited Miss Fox's sister, Mrs Ernest Hunter, in Charlotte Court House; and -the three then went to Mathews where they visited Mrs Hunter's son-in-law and daughter Mr'$jd Mrs. Charles Shaw. On their Way home Miss Fox and Mis Waldrup visited Mr. and Mrs. John Clawson and their three children in Drakes Branch. Mrs. Clawson is a former case worker in the Madison County Welfare Deparment. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Anthony and daughter, Barbara Sue, and son, C. W.,,Jr., and Mr. Ernest Goldsmith returned from Murphy Monday, where they had attended the funeral of Mr. Anthony's broth er, Arthur Anthony. C One of the best Hunt's about New York is actually getting back home not that I didn't enjoy my trip in fact, I enjoyed every minute of it but those peo ple up there are always rushing at top speed trying to get no where it seems the plane trip on the United DC-fi Mainliner was most dellshtful we landed at Tri-City Airport ( Bristol-Johnson City-Kingaport) and at Charles ton, West Virginia from there it was straight to Newark, N. J., Airport breexing along at 350 mph and some 15,000 feet in the sky, the scenery was gorgeous looking down on the vast landscape is intriguing and exciting more beautiful, however, is when the plane lifted above the clouds above was clear blue sky and beam ing sun while below it seemed we .were riding on white, glistening snow banks thrilling you bet arriving on time to the minute at Newark Airport, our party se cured a station wagon with driver who took us to the new, beautiful Americana Hotel just off Times Square the 16-mile trip from the airoort to the hotel was ex citing even if traffic was backed up for miles along the New Jer sey Turnpike space does not permit me to write up all the in- terestine experiences and sights but the entire trip was thrilling and pleasant the Panel Session, n which I participated, was suc cessful and I enjoyed the experi ence wasn't used to five micro phones, ton executives of Red Cross and newspapermen and women, plus recorders, etc., but i sot through okey those of you who have been to New York know what I mean when I say New York, alone, is a place to spend weeks and weeks without "touch ing the surf ace" but throw in the World's Fair and only three davs to "see it all" and it's just Utoo much for a small-town country editor the Fair is fabulous gigantic stupendous too great for words attaougn 111 m ' -THOU H01H3T To Mr. and Mrs. Troy B. dows, Marshall Rt. 1, a May 27. Miss Shelton is a graduate of Laurel High School, Class of 1968. Grant Reed Is Improving After Freak Car Wreck Grant Reed, 66, of the Shutin community, remains in critical condition in the Memorial Mission Hospital following a freak car ac cident last week near his home. Reed started to get into his car at his home some two miles north of Hot Springs when the car started rolling, pinning Reed be tween the car and a building. He was crushed so securely between the car and building that it re quired a truck to pry him loose. Bowman was host ess and program leader for the Marshall Garden Club on Thurs day, May 21, 1964, at her home on Roberts Hill Road. Mrs. Clyde Roberts, president, presided over a brief business session, during which it was disclosed that the plant sale held on May 17 was considered successful and that work on the club's major projects is continuing. Mrs. Bowman's program topic was "Iris," a subject on which she can speak with authority; she nmed variety of 01 iris which would yeild a long season of bloom when planted in the gar dens. Mental Center To Have Open House In Morganton The state's new Western Caro lina Center for mentally handi capped children is preparing to welcome a throng of visitors ex pected to attend dedicatory events and open house scheduled for June 11 and 12 at the Morganton unit Segments of the program have been planned to appeal both to professionals and to the general public. Dr. Paul Keller, Religious Director of Tusculum College, Greeneville, Tenn., performed the double ring ceremony The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Troy K. Ramsey, of Marshall, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. BQj&jMfls. A. H. Cowan of AisheViIleLi, ' The church was decorated with greenery, baskets of pink gladioli, anA seven - branched candelabra holding lighted cathedral tapers. Musicians -were Mrs, John O. Corbett of Malrshalf, organist; and Mr. Corbett, soloist Mrs. Corbett played "Poem," "Saint d' Amour," "Cantilene Nuptial," "Wedding Bells," "Ave Maria," and "O Per fect Love." Mr. Corbett sang I Love Thee" by Grieg and "Whith er Thou Goest" by Singer prior to the ceremony and "Wedding Prayer" by Dunlap as a benedic tion. The "Bridal Chorus!" by Waemer was used as the proces sional and "Wedding March" by Mendelssohn as the recessional. The bride's mother wore a dress of pink silk with matching acces sories. The bridegroom's mother wore a dress of aqua silk with matching accessories and both wore corsages of white carna tions. Mrs. E. C. Teague had charge of the reception which was held in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the ceremo ny. She was assisted by Mrs. E. Y. Ponder, Mrs. Eva Sams and Mrs. James Story. The five-tiered wedding cake was served by Mrs. Edgar Morgan, Mrs. Clarence Joyner, and Mrs. Ned Ramsey, all aunts of the bride. Punch was poured by Mrs. A. E. Leake, Mrs. Oscar McDevitt, Mrs. Fred Red mon, and Mrs. Albert Reese, bII aunts of the bride; and Mrs. Bill Hunter, cousin of the bride. For a southern wedding trip the bride wore a blue rayon cot ton suit with white accessories and a corsage from her bouquet. Upon their return they will re side in Greensboro. Mrs. John H. Daniel, Jr., of Ra leigh, sister of the bridegroom, kept the bride's book. Mr. and Mrs. A H. Cowan, par ents of the bridegroom, entertain ed at a dinner at Plemmons' Res taurant Sunday evening prior to the rehearsal. The tables were decorated with arrangements of roses.
