' Seal Campaign Starts In N.X.; Olive Chairman Raleigh -Judge Hubert E. Olive, State Christmas Seal Campaign Chairman, launched the 1MI Christmas Seal Campaign in North Carolina today when ha presented the first Christmas Seal to a representative of the Post Office Department The recipient is symbolic of a group of workers upon whom much of the success of the Christmas Seal Campaign depends. Approxi mately 660,000 letters carrying Christmas Seals are being deliv ered to the homes of North Caroli na this week. When making the presentation Judge Olive declared, "By this set I extend to yon and the Depart ment you represent the apprecia tion of affiliated tuberculosis as sociations throughout North Caro lina." Judge Olive emphasized the im portance of the Campaign by re fer! ng to the continuing problem of tuberculosis in the state. "Last year there were 1,464 new cases of tuberculosis report ed in North Carolina," said Judge Olive. "Of course, there were many times this number who were exposed and perhaps infected." "The State of North Carolina spends four and one-half million dollars per year to hospitalize our tuberculosis patients," he con tinued, "and, in addition, large sums for prevention." As we approach the Chrsitmas season we instinctively think of others and the Christmas Seals remind us of what we can do to enable those who need help to live a better life," he daded. "Through the years Christmas Seals have been a motivating force in fighting tuberculosis and other respiratory diseases," Judge Ol ive emphasised. "I urge you, therefore, to purchase Christmas Seals so that we may come closer and closer to our goal of eventual eradication of tuberculosis among our citizens." SCHEDULE - DIAL. 1460 DAILY W.M.M.H.
