Tour Paper Mill
In Canton Thurs.
Approximately 6,000 Western
North Carolinians toured the huge
pulp and paper mill of Champion
Papers, Inc., in Canton last week,
during a special open house at
the Carolina Division.
Highlight of the tour was a
walk past the Division's new 600-foot-lonp

Youths To Attend
RRD Conference

Robertson Memorial YMCA in
Canton and taken by bus to the
mill following a brief orientation.
On Tuesday and Wednesday,
active and retired Champion em
ployees and their families toured
the mill, while area residents from
Haywood and Buncombe counties

gional Resource Development Con
ference at Fontana Dam.

all-expense-paid trip to the con
ference because of -their interest
and the surrounding area were
guests of Champion Thursday.
They saw the huge paperboard
machine (designated as No. 19)
producing milk carton stock. When
rated production rates are achiev
ed, the machine will make more
than 500 tons of paperboard a
day.
