The five-week course included training in engines, survival, aero dynamics, navigation, leadership, physiology, and other fields. Shook, USN, aon of Mr. and Mrs. Temple Shook of Rt 3, Man Hill, is serving aboard the destroyer USS Man ley, a recovery ship for Project Gemini GT-5 (Gemini Titan-5) eight-day flight of astronauts Gordon Cooper and Charles Con rad. After this portion of the flight was complet ed, Manley relocated to be in a favorable location for recovery in the event of a shortened mission. Manley was picked for recovery duty because of her search and rescue capabilities. A specially de signed Gemini-Apollo davit re trieval crane baa been installed on the destroyer to facilitate handling of the capsule. The crew of the Charleston-based destroyer has undergone extensive training in spacecraft recovery techniques since her selection. Manley will resume normal ope rations as a member of the United States Second Fleet upon comple tion of the mission. U. S. Marine Lawrence W. Brady was promoted to Lance Cor poral on the 16, of August while serving with the U. S. Marine Corps in the Republic of Viet Nam. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Brady of Marshall RFD 2, and also is a graduate of Mars Hill High School. Oklahoma City, Okla. Master Sergeant Harry T. Radeliff (right) i graduate of son of Mrs. Blanche Radeliff of High School, Rt. 1, Asheville, receives the U. S. Air Force Certificate of Retire- ment at Tinker AFB, Okla., after more than 22 years service. Ser geant Radeliff was a manpower technician with the Military Air Transport Service at Tinker prior to his retrement. The sergeant, a West Bupncombe is a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. His wife, Iowa, is the daugh ter of Mrs. E. B. Ebbs of Hot Springs, and the late Mr. Ebbs. Making the presentation is Col onel Mahlon B. Hammond, com mander of the 1707th Air Trans port Wing.
