(1 John 2:17) Lesson Text: Ephesians 6:10-10; James 4:1-8; 1 John 8:17. In last week's lesson we took under consideration the sins of the flesh against which every man must battle. These were primarily private factors. But in this les son we study those things which are outside of ourselves out side our control as an individual which put pressure on us and can hinder our growth as Chris tians. Herein lies a persistent and continuous struggle, and this les son should enable us to withstand these temptations more effective ly recognizing them for the ev ils that they are. Christian life is warfare, and for it, the Christian needs the ar mor enumerated by Paul . . . the loincloth of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit. And, although the thought of continuous, daily struggle may dismay some of vs, still, we are adult enough to know that there is a lot of truth in the old saw that if something is worth having it is worth fighting for. And what could be more worth fghting for than God's saving Grace? For it is true, that as we face adversity and hardship and Homecoming At Dry Branch Free Wil Church Sunday Singing, preaching and good fel lowship will be featured at the Homecoming at Dry Branch Free Will Baptist Church next Sunday, August 80. NEWS FOR VETERANS The proper execution of requir ed forms will speed up applica tions for veterans' benefits, Jud son D. DeRamus, manager of the N. C. Veterans Administration Regional office, said today. Every item on the application form must be filled out legibly be fore the claim can be adjudicated, DeRamus pointed out. DeRamus said failure to pro vide the necessary information de lays the decision on a claim and often leads to an exchange of cor respondence before a complete an swer can be obtained. In the event some doubt exists as to how blanks on the forms should be filled in, the applicant may get information and assist ance at any VA office. How much more true it is that in the old saw that if something is worth having it is worth fighting for. And what could be more worth fighting fUr . than God's saving Grace? For it is true, that as we fat adversity and hardship and cofi nuer them so we grow in sta- ftiiore as a person. How much more true it is that as we face the ene mies of the spirit, and conquer them, so we grow spiritually! As we read Paul's description of the armor needed by the Christian in his continuing warfare against evil, it should occur to us that most of the armor named is defensive. It should also occur to us, how ever, that the sword is an offensive weapon. In other words, we are not to stand still, merely warding off the onslaught of the enemy. . . Sin. . but we are to strike back. It is not enough to merely refrain from being weak and bad. We must stand strong and good. Spiritual weapons of courage, truth, steadfastness and hope are needed because the enemy we are facing is not made of flesh and blood. It is a spiritual enemy an enemy which would reduce man to the lowest that is in him. And it is a sad truth that we are not naturally equipped to face a foe like this; the very nature of man leans toward ease, indolence, self ishness and indulgence. It has in deed been truly said that the strongest chain is only as strong as its weakest link! The most telling weapon against sin in the world is the gospel of Christ. This is brought home to us as we take not of the adversi ties which heset Paul. He never faltered in his devotion to his Christian faith. If we will but follow Paul's in spiring example, and be bold wit nesses for Christ as we go our ap pointed ways on this earth, we will have the foe more-than half .van quished at the outset For the pressures from without become lees of a personal problem for us K we are girt with the armor of Christianity. Remember .... we cannot fight e fight alone .... and win We need God's saving Grace to our stand against the forces of eviL ITCHING LIKE MAD? 0t IW doctor's formula! Zemo speedily stops torment of
