The "good health ambassador," now a Mars Hill College freshman, is planning a health career. Miss Carter is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Carter and granddaughter of Mrs. Arlis Ed wards, of Mars Hill, and the late Mr. Edwards. The expert rating is the highest mark a soldier can achieve in hie rifle qualification test A squad leader in Company B, 23d Engineer Battalion, of the 3d Armored Division near Nanau, Sergeant Payne entered the Army in April 1069 and was stationed at Port Belvoir, Va., before ar riving overseas in February 1964 on this tour of duty. The 84-year-old soldier attend ed Marshall High School. His wife, Carolyn, is with him in Germany. see Richmond. Kv. Clarence D. Sheltwn, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence D. Shelton Sr., of 17 Fur man Court, Asheville, has been promoted to staff sergeant in the U. S. Air Force. Sergeant Shelton is a radar re pairman at an Air Force unit in Richmond, Ky. He is a member of the Strategic Air Command which keeps the free world's mightiest missile and jet bomber force ready to counter the enemy threat. The sergeant, a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School, attend ed Mars Hill College. His wife, Nona, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Homer B. Haw kins of Rt. 3, Mars Hill. Cocoa Beach, Fla. Staff Ser geant David M. Burnette, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis M. Burnette bf Rt. 8, Hot Springs, has arrived for duty at Patrick AFB, Fla., af ter a tour of service in Germany. Sergeant Burnette, a navigation equipment technician, is assigned to the Air Force Systems Com mand which provides research, de velopment, teat and engineering of satellites, boosters and associ ated systems in support of NASA. He is married to the former Helga Frank from Germany. (AHTNC) Army Pvt. McAr thur Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Davis, Rt. 3, Mars Hill, com pleted a personnel administration course at Fort Ord, California, Oc tober 15. During the eight-week course Davie received instruction in Ar my administrative procedures with emphasis on personnel man agement. The 21-year-old soldier entered the Army last June and received basic training at Fort Polk, La. He was graduated from Mars Hill High School in 1962 and was employed by Hammarlund Manu facturing Company before enter ing the Army. 7th Infantry DivJaJtorea (AHTr NCJj L- Glenn D'-iiney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clause N. Rainey, Rt. 2, Box 72, Hot Springs, was promoted to specialist four in Ko rea Oct. 4, while assigned to the 7th Infantry Division. Specialist four is an enlisted rank equivalent to the rank of corporal. A tank driver in Company A, 1st Battalion, of the division's 73d Armor, Rainey entered the Army in January of this year, re ceived basic training at Fort Polk, La., and was stationed at Fort Knox, Ky., before arriving over seas in July of this year.
