Due to the severe drought con ditions which prevailed over much of the county during the summer find fall iH-riod, Madison County whs approved as natural disaster ana hy the Secretary of Agricul ture on Nov. 11), 1966. This ap proval, according- to Knlph W. Itamsey, county ASCS office man ager, entitles livestock and dairy farms to purchase Commodity Credit corn at a 26 discount to feed their primary livestock if they have a need for this feed. Itamsey explained that the ba sic purpose of the emergency live stock feed program is to help the fanners maintain his foundation herd dining a period when his supply of feed is short. Primary livestock are: (1) Dairy cows, heifers kept fn replacement, beef cows, beef heifers for replace ment, hulls kept for breeding pur poses, sheep and goats. All other .livestock are classified as secon dary livestock and are not eligible for the discount corn but are eli-1 gible for corn at the full corn sup port rate of $1.42 per bushel. Due to lack cf handling and storage facilities within the coun ty, Madison County farmers must secure their corn through handlers located at Asheville. To secure this feed corn the fanners must first visit the local ASCS office and file a formal request at which time he reports his livestock by number and classes and the amount of feed available on tho farm. From this data tho ASCS personnel and county committee work out his corn allocation for si III) day period of which the farmer is given written notice. The interested fanner then again visits the ASCS office, makes a deposit and secures a delivery or der for the amount of his corn al- t 1 R a ! s s a 8 7 AMAZING LIQUID uyb V 7 PAINFUL CORNS?
