. Marshall, N. C. December It, 4-fl Achievement Program Highly Successful The Madison . County Achievement Program was held Sunday afternoon, Dec. 6, in the Marshall High School Auditorium. The theme of the annual awards event was "4 H:The Big, Bright Green Pleasure Machine." Lynne Baker, President of the Madison County 4-H Council, was the presiding officer. A skit entitled "The Big, Bright Green Pleasure Machine" was written for the ' program by Harlon Rice, chairman, Lynne Baker, Cynthia Niles, Jerry Cody, and Karen Rice. Participating in the skit were Harlon Rice, Cynthia Niles, Jerry Cody, Karen Rice, Steve Wood, Dianne Wallin, Warren Wise, Eddie Reed, Lynne Baker, Robert Johnson, Teresa Johnson, Tony Lewis, Verlon Davis, Rhonda Sprinkle. Loretta Barnett led group singing during scene changes. 4-H adult leaders presented awards for members of their club. Leaders were given certificates in recognition of voluntary service to the organization. Miss Geneva Lewis received a certificate of appreciation. One year certificates of service were presented to Mrs. Wade Sexton, Mrs. Bill George, Mr. aand Mrs. Arnold Garrison, Mr. and Mrs. Hardie Merrill, and Joe Rice. Two year certificates of service were awarded to Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Cody and Varden Cody. Mrs. Steve Wallin received a three year certificate and Mr. and Mrs. Neil Barnett received a four year certificate. A five year certificate was presented to Mrs. Earle Wise and six year certificates were awarded to Mrs. Jimmy Davis and Mrs. Arvil Gosnell. The regional system would also provide a pool of highly skilled specialists to assist local library staffs in developing and expanding their services and provide a means through which routine administrative details can be handled at a central location, freeing local staff members from time consuming chores so they can devote more time to the needs of their patrons. Local county governments would retain ownership of all current library property and any specifically bought for local libraries in the future. Materials bought by the regional library would be shared by member libraries, and distributed throughout the region. AcCeptS Credits From Institutes Western Carolina University has adopted a new policy, ef fective with the winter quarter of 1971, of accepting transfer students from technical in stitutes or community college technical programs. The more liberal transfer of credits policy will, for the first time, allow students completing terminal" programs at post secondary institutions below the four-year college level to be admitted into university programs. The transfer of credits toward a WCU baccalaureate degree will be accepted from fully accredited Institutes or com munity colleges and from in stitutes or colleges that have applied for regional ac creditation and met all ac creditation standards except age of institution. The new policy will permit the transfer of ud to 45 ouarter hours of credit for freshmen and sophomore courses completed at either a technical institute or in a community college technical program that are equivalent to junior and senior level courses at Western Carolina University.
