The Marshall Garden Club and the French Broad Electric Membership Corp. will co sponsor the Marshall Christmas Lighting Contest this year. Rural West Madison Group Met Dec. 3 The Rural West Madison Development Group, Inc. met Thursday, Dec. 3 in the new corporation center in Sleepy Valley with 26 members present, and two visitors. Chairman Marie Osteen presided. Song Leader Dewey Foster led the group in a song with Emma Kate Davis at the piano. The group enjoyed a special song by Max and Marie Osteen, Emma Kate Davis and Joe Shipley, the Rev. Hubert Lam be had an inspiring devotion, en couraging everyone to work together, loving his neighbor, to develop a good community to live in. Mrs. Osteen asked Emma Kate Davis to read a letter written to Mrs. Reva Foster from Mrs. Dossie Holt, our former secretary and reporter, who moved recently to Henderson ville. She also asked Emma Kate Davis to read the minutes of the last meeting of the group; and the minutes of the Board of Directors of the group, which were approved. Mrs. Reva Gowan was unanimously elected to serve as secretary, to fill the vacancy created when Mrs. Holt moved. Mrs. Osteen reported on four tickets received from the County Extension Office, compliments of The French Broad Electric Corporation, to the annual awards luncheon of the Community Development Clubs in Western North Carolina, held in Ashe ville City Auditorium. The Christmas Party for the senior citizens of the group was discussed, and the date set for Thursday, Dec. 10, at 7:30 p.m. The bazaar which had been previously suggested, was briefly discussed.
