Mrs. Evelyn Ramsey resigned her position as chairman of the Madison stockholders and was tem porarily replaced by Smith Goodrum until the annual election in April, it was reported. Bob Weideman, director of Green Eagle Transportation Cooperative, reviewed the operation of the Madison unit. The stockholders elected to reduce the number of runs per week from six to three. The new schedule reveals that the bus will run on Mondays from the Laurel area into Marshall and Mars Hill; on Thursdays from the Spring Creek area to Marshall and Mars Hill; and on Saturdays from Spring Creek area into Newport, Tenn. The 32-passenger bus now operating in the county will be replaced by a mini-bus with seating capacity of 12. Carl Waldrop, of the Spring Creek area, has accepted the position of bus driver. He formerly served as back-up driver. Edison Ramsey resigned as driver for per sonal reasons, it was stated. Anyone needing any in formation concerning Green Eagle is urged to contact John Reid, program developer for Madison-Buncombe Rural Development Council, Inc., at 649-4903. Gardner, Rt. 2, Mars Hill, recently received the Good Conduct Medal at Ft. Hood, Tex. The medal, established in 1941, is awarded on a selective basis for those who distinguish themselves from among their fellow military personnel through exemplary conduct, efficiency and fidelity during their active military service. Spec. 5 Gardner received the award while assigned as a squad leader in Company A, 2nd Battalion of the 1st Ar mored Division's 52nd In fantry. He entered, the army in F ebruary 1969 and completed basic training at Ft. Bragg. He has served in Vietnam and holds the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart and the Arm Commendation Medal. Specialist Gardner, whose wife, l.inda, lives in Hot Springs is a 1966 graduate of Mars Hill High School and attended Mars Hill College.
