OPIE BALLARD
Opie Ballard, 56, of Mars
Hill Rt. 2, died Friday night,
March 26, 1971, in an Asheville
hospital after a long illness.
He was a native of Madison
County.
Surviving are the widow,
Mrs. Annie Proffitt Ballard;
two daughters, Mrs. Viola
Franklin of Mars Hill and
Miss Ruth Ballard of the
home; two sons, Hoyle of
Leicester and Eddie Ballard
of the home; three sisters,
Mrs. Hicks Robinson and Mrs.
Porter Waldrup, both of Mars
Hill and Mrs. W. O. Byrd of
Candler; a brother, Robert
Ballard of Orlando, Fla.; and
three grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m.

MRS. MOLLIE LANDERS
Mrs. Mollie Dockery
Landers, 90, of 92 Mt. Clare
Ave., Asheville, died Friday
morning, March 26, 1971, in a
Western North Carolina
hospital after a long illness.
She was a native of Madison
County, had lived in Bun
combe County for 44 years and
was the widow of Mitchell
lenders, who died in 1965.
Surviving are a daughter,
Mrs. Pearl McCracken and a
son, Frank Landers, both of
Asheville; two brothers, Troy
of Marshall and Leonard
Dockery of Hot Springs; four
grandchildren and four great
grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p.m.
Sunday in the chapel of Groce
Funeral Home.
The Rev. John Lunsford
officiated. Burial was in
Gashes Creek Baptist Church
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ben
Taylor, Ernest, Ronnie and
Ed Hensley, Wally Creasman
and Robert Landers.

L. Robinson, 56, formerly of
Mars Hill, died Saturday
morning, March 27, 1971, in an
an Atlanta hospital after a
brief illness.
He was a veteran of World
War II and was a graduate of
Wake Forest and Emory
University Medical School.
Surviving are the widow,
Mrs. Sarah Robinson; of
Atlanta; a son, Bruce
Robinson of the home; two
brothers, Douglas M.
Robinson of Mars Hill and J.
Stanley of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Burial was Monday in
Atlanta.
KERMIT Z. COATES
Graveside services for
Kermit Z. Coates, 53, of
Detroit, formerly of Marshall,
who died Sunday, March 28,
1971, in Detroit, were held at 4
p.m. Wednesday in Madison
Seminary Baptist Church
Cemetery. C. D. Bowman
officiated.
Mr. Coates had lived in
Detroit for 30 years.
Surviving are two
daughters, Misses Carol Ann
and Sandra and a son, Randy
Coates of California; two
sisters, Mrs. George G.
Roberts of Mars Hill Rt. 1 and
Mrs. A. D. Fox of Asheville; a
brother Bernard Coates of
Detroit; the stepmother, Mrs.
A. W. Coates of Asheville; and
four grandchildren.
The annual meeting of the
membership of MODEL
MADISON scheduled for
Aprils 5, has been postponed
until a future date, the time
and place will be announced
later.
