No. 24S6 SEVERAL MONTHS AGO the pet cat of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Sprouse who live on Panhandle Road, Rt. 2, Marshall, had the misfortune of losing her newly born kittens and almost succombed from grief. Mr. Sprouse found some small squirrels and placed them near the mother cat. The cat immediately "adop ted" the squirrels and let them nurse, as shown above. Needless to say, the squirrels were also pleased with their "adopted mother". Reeves Returns Wfllnut Carl Reeves. Jr.. of San Antonio, Tex., has returned to Marshall where he will be employed by Madison Sur veying Company. He was formerly employed by Southwestern Research In stitute in San Antonio. Mr. Reeves is the son of Mrs. I Carl Reeves of Marshall and the late Mr. Reeves. He is married to the former Miss Pamelia Murdock, of San Anotonio. They have two children, David and Glenna. EL-McOur and her niece, Miss Louise McClure. Last Sunday they visited another sister, Miss Hazel Lieb in Black Mountain. Raymond Stines is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital where he is receiving treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Firmer Johnson have sold their home on the hill opposite the Madison Grill to the Presbyterian Church for a Manse. Last week they moved into thier mobile home in Walnut near the school where the old manse stood. People of Walnut welcome them to the community. Mr. and Mrs. Avery Rice from Torrence, California and their son and daughter in law, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Rice and three children from Memphis, Term, visited relatives in the county last week. On Sunday they were the dinner guests of Mrs. Rice's aunts, Miss Tennie Ramsey and Mrs. Robbie Rector. Mrs. Dora Rice was also present for the dinner and in the afternoon another aunt, Mrs. Laura Faulkner Joined the group. ' Mr. and Mrs. Arvie Tatt of nam, HI. returned to their home last week and after pending several days here with relative and friends. Dr. Jerry Rice, Jr. of Cullowbee returned home Friday night after spending a few days here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Rice, Sr. Mrs. Harry Burgin, of Arden, and Mrs. Tom Goddard, of West Palm Beach, Florida, attended the funeral of their uncle, Mr. J. Winston Rice, here Monday. Mrs., Burgin and Mrs. Goddard are the former Misses Gladys and Belle Hunter, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Latt Hunter of Alexander. They also visited friends and relatives while here. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Landis of Taylor, Mich., returned to their home Sunday after visiting relatives in Asheville and Marshall. He is a freshman at Marshall high school and is a member of the Tornadoes' football squad. Mr. Arthur Ledford, of Greenville, S. C, spent several days here this week with his wife. Pat Franklin, president, presided over the meeting. Rushee Vanda Cook signed a pledge card to become a member of the sorority. Members of Alpha Lambda, the mother sorority, present at the meeting were Geraldine Johnson and Brenda Hank ins. Several Beta Omega mem bers attended the Upper East Tennessee District Council Meeting on September 11, in Kingsport, Tennessee. These members and their husbands attended a cookout following the meeting. Christmas cards, notecards, and place mats commorating North Carolina are now being sold by Beta Omega members as a means of adding to their treasury. Each year Beta Omega awards the man who has con tributed the most to the sorority and its work. This award, the Zeus award, will be presented to this outstanding Individual in December. Precinct Meetings County Convention Registered Republicans will hold their biennial precinct meetings at their polling places during this "off year" in ac cordance with the new plan of Organization of the Republican Party of North Carolina. The eight organized precincts will hold their meetings at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, in their regular polling places. The two recently "carved out" precincts (Sandy Mush and East Fork-Grapevine) will be organized at the polling places (where votes were cast in the 1970 General Election) at 8 p.m. on Friday, September 17. Each precinct shall elect a five member committee consisting of a chairman, vice chairman, and secretary plus two other members, to serve for two years. Each precinct may nominate one of its members to the county executive committee. Each precinct is entitled to send one delegate and one alternate to the Madison County GOP convention plus one delegate and one alternate for every fifty (50) votes or major fraction thereof cast for Jim Gardner in the precinct in the 1968 general election. The Madison County Republican convention will meet at the courthouse in Marshall on Saturday, September 25, at 2p.m. It shall elect officers, a finance committee, and appoint delegates (15) and alternates (15) to the 11th Congressional District convention (to be held between October 23 and November 6) and the North Carolina Republican convention to be held at the Charlotte Coliseum on November 1 and 20, 1971. Three candidates for State GOP Chairman are former State Senator Ted Dent, of Arden ; Attorney Bill Graham, of Winston Salem; and Businessman Frank A. Rouse, of Kington. The county convention shall appoint one person to each of these committees: Judicial. Solicitorial. Senatorial, and Legislative District Committees. The convention shall also make a recommendation to the 1 1th District convention relative to a member of the State Executive Committee. Every Republican is urged to attend and take an active part in these functions. A special invitation is extended to the teenage and young voter.
