MR. ANp.MRS. WALTER HARRELL. abovi?, were
recently notified that they had been awarded an all
expense trip to Nassau as a result of Harrell sur
passing a district sales production quota. The an
nouncement was made by Robert L. Smith,
president of North State General Insurance Division
of Northwestern Security Life Insurance Company.
Harrell. who has been with this company for over
two years, has served as District Manager. The
district is composed of 20 North Carolina counties
which arei affiliated with several funeral homes
throughout the state, including Bowirian-Duckett
Funeral Home and Holeombe Funeral Home In this
county. Mr. and Mrs. Harrell plan to leave Marshall
Saturday .March 4, for Miami, Fla., prior to board
ing the M S Sunward, a Norwegian ship en route to
Nassau; and Freeport. They expect to return to
Marshall about March 12.

Silver Is
Candidate For
Commissioner
W. C. Silver, Jr., a candidate
for county commissioner on the
Republican ticket, is a graduate
of Mars Hill high school and
Western Carolina College at
CuQowhee. He has a degree In
Business Education and a
minor in English. He served
over three years in active duty
during World War n as a Navy
pilot, seeing action in the South
Pacific. He was discharged as a
Senior Lieutenant in the Naval
Reserve. Silver is the father of
three children, one at East
Tennessee State, one at
Bowman Grey Medical School
and one in Mars Hill High
School.
Silver has led an active civic
life including membership In
French Broad Masonic Lodge of
Marshall, Past Master and Past
District Deputy Grand Master
of the 54th Masonic District. He
is a 32 degree Scottish Rite
Mason, and a Shriner; member
of Robinson Carter Post No. 435
of Mars Hill; past adjutant and
presently finance officer of the
post. He is a member of the
Mars Hill Baptist Church and
has been ordained a deacon.
Silver has served Madison
County for three 2-year terms
as county commissioner, one as
chairman of the board.
He has owned and operated
Silver Mill at Petersburg for
over 20 years.

until Thursday of last week
visiting with their family here,

Their brother, Edward L.
(Ned) Anderson was a native of
Madison County but had made
his home in Polk County for the
past 40 years.
Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Taylor
are parents of a son born
Tuesday, Feb. 22, in Mission
Hospital. Mrs. Taylor's mother
came up from Georgetown, S.
C. for a visit here with the
family last Tuesday.
Miss Mary Huff will be home
the latter part of this week
because of the quarter-break at
ASU.
Miss Elaine Ray. a student at
ASU, will also be home at tills
time.
Mr. 3nd. Mrs. Alfred Huff
visited their daughter and son-in-law,
Mr. and Mr$. Harold
Toney. in Forest City last
Sunday for the celebration of
the fourth birthday of their little
son, Matt Toney.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray N. Jarvis
and son Ray, Jr. and daughters,
Martha and Mary, of Atlanta,
visited their , son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy
Tilson, and their little son, Bill,
and Mrs. James' mother here
last weekend.
Mrs. Jonas Chandler, who
had surgery last Thursday at
Mission Hospital, is reported to
be getting along nicely.
Mrs. Pauline Briggs Carr,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Briggs, who had surgery last
week on Tuesday at St. Joseph's
Hospital, is now back at her
home in the Haw Creek Section
of Asheville.

didacy for the office of Auditor
of Madison County as a
Republican candidate. He is a
life-long resident of Madison
County. He is a graduate of
Mars Hill high school and at
tended Mars Hill College. He
also served two years in the
Fourth Infantry Division of the
U.S. Army as an office clerk
where he attained the rank of
Sergeant.
Mr. Willis, a self-employed
farmer, has served as the
Republican Judge for the Beech
Glen precinct since 1966. The 33-year-old
Willis tslnarried to the
former Miss Wanda Hylemon,
alsool Mars Hill. They have two
daughters.
