It was announced that a nursery will be open each night and transportation will be available through bus ministry. Sunday School Lesson Exodus 20:7; Matthew 5:33-37; 6:1-6; 7:21-23; 21:28-32; Mark 7:5-8 Constructive criticism is one thing; destructive criticism is another. No one who has navigated in the business world will quarrel with this fact! So how do we combat this somewhat unpalatable aspect as it applies itself to that most personal and challenging area - our religious persuasions? Today, when it is apparently so fashionable to decry any and every effort at control as being in violation of individual rights, the true concept of freedom and truth is often abused. We must, of necessity, lead a controlled life - for our personal good and for the good of our fellowmen. If we did not, crime would be an even greater problem than it is today - and there are times when it seems to run rampant in our modern day world! How much worse it would be if there were no man-made or God-given boundaries to confront the human animal! Respect for the law is ad mirable, when it is displayed in the right spirit; the letter of the law, however, and its strict, unthinking observance, can be another matter! This Christ realized as He went about His service to mankind in the few short years allotted to Him. Thus He was often called to account for what was viewed as His radical behavior. (See Mark 7:54). Too much attention to the letter of the law detracts, so often, from its true intent, and from its effectiveness! The name of the Lord should not be used in vain. This the Commandments clearly state. And, all too often, we take it literally. Cursing, or as an oath, it Is certainly wrong -and personally objectionable to many. Yet, the meaning of the Commandment goes deeper than that. God's name should not be used lightly when applied to Individual behavior ; if one, who purposes to honor the Lord, swears to do this or that in His name, then he should be as good as his word. He should not profess Christian tenets publicly if he is not prepared to live up to them in every detail - both in his public and private life! Good works performed for personal and public glory are not truly good works. They are performed in self-seeking service, rather than in God's name and for the good of the recipient. And while this ulterior motive may be suc cessfully hidden from the scrutiny of men, it will never be hidden from the scrutiny of (he Lord, who sees into the hearts of all men! The olgnlty of man demands a certain privacy in matters pertaining to his spiritual life. Chrtot, Himself, often sought privacy and totttuda In which to convene with the Father -and always In matters of great import, He witnessed effectively and sincerely for the Almighty, of tea flying courageously In the (ace of the gravest opposition. This aQ Christians should do. Bat Christ never wed God as a . means of self-ceftirg ad vertisement! Tradition, ss t-aiSoo slone, 1'e pest ned - and despised.
