MRS. JOSEPH DEWEY NIX JR. ...the former Miss Karen Jewel King ? ? ? t Sawyers-Rice Vows Spoken ; Sherry Lynne Sawyers and Guy Mitchell Rice were married at 1 p.m. Saturday in the home of the bridegroom in Mars Hill. The Rev. Orlando Hawkins conducted the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Sawyers of Weaverville. Rice is the son of Mrs. Mary Lee Edwards of Mars Hill and R. L. Rice of Galax, Va. A reception followed. The bride is a 1977 graduate of North Buncombe High School. The bridegroom is a 1976 graduate of Madison High School and is employed by Quorum Knitting Mills. The couple will live in Mars Hill. Homecoming The annual homecoming and decoration at the Wilson Bailey-Roberts Cemetery will be held this Sunday. Sendees will begin at 11 a.m. at the Caney Fork Baptist Church with lunch at noon. Frank Reed and the Blue Ridge Singing Convention will meet at 2 p.m. The Rev. Jack Davis, pastor, invites the public to attend. [Davis-Norton Votes Spoken Min Debbie Norton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mack Norton of Route 2, Marshall. became the bride of Stevie Davis, son of Mrs. Vance Wheeler, of Weaverville and W. J. Davis of Candler, when they exchanged marriage vows Monday af ternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Farkas. The Rev. Ebb Jankins officiated. The couple will reside in Mars Hill. Nix-King Vows Exchanged June 12 In ClintoiJ In a double-ring ceremony on June 13 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon at Hills berry Free Will Baptist Church in Clinton, Karen Jewel King became the bride of Joseph Dewey Nix Jr. The Rev. Ronnie Parker performed the ceremony. Wedding musicians were Mr. and Mrs. Noah B. Barefoot of Roseboro. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bonnie F. King of Clinton. Parents of the bridegroom are Mr and Mrs. Joseph Dewey Nix of Mar shall. Mr. King gave his daughter in marriage. She wore a gown of elegant white satapeau featuring ruffled butterfly sleeves and a bouffant silhouette. Imported Venise lace, accented with flowerlets, outlined the Victorian neckline and sheer yoke of the bodice. A white satin ribbon trimmed with lace encircled the Empire waist and fashioned streamers down the back. Her gracefully gathered skirt swept into a circular chapel train finished at the hemline with wide gathered flounce highlighted with appliques. A fingertip mantilla edged with matching lace completed the bride's ensemble. She carried a bouquet of white daisies and mums, accented with babies' breath and lace and ribbon streamers with love knots, centered with a white orchid. Sylvia King of Clinton, sister of the bride, attended as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Debbie Willis and Sherrie Baldwin, sisters of the bride, both of Clinton, and Sherron Atkins of Troy. Little Miss Malena Nix, cousin of the bridegroom of Marshall was flowergirl. Ring bearer was Shawn Fell, cousin of the bridegroom, of Goldsboro. Brenda Martin, sister of the bride, presided at the bride's book. The bridesmaids and honor attendants' gowns were confections of ice blue chiffon dni0Md with butterfly sleeves, oval necklines and flowing skirts Their sheer picture hats with ruffled brims were accented with illusion and silk flowers. Each carried a nosegay of white mums and babies' breath with matching blue streamers tied in love knots. The flower girls's gown was identical to those of the at tendants, and she carried a basket of mixed flowers with blue satin streamers flowing from the basket. Joe Nix served as his son's best man. Ushers were Jerry Worley of Winston-Salem, Clement Crowe of Asheville and Larry King of Autryville, brother of the bride. The bride is a graduate of Clinton High School and a graduate of Campbell College where she earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. The bridegroom graduated from Marahall High School and attended Mare Hill College. Following a wedding trip to Myrtle Beach, the couple will make their home in Aaheville. A reception waa held in the church fellowship hall following the ceremony. The bride'a table waa covered with a white linen cloth and cen tered with lovely flowers and a four-tiered wedding cake. Refreshments of punch, mints cookies, finger sandwiches and ham biscuits were served. Mrs. Karen King of Autryville poured punch, while Mrs. Janice Bledsoe of Fayetteville served cake. On June 11 following the rehearsal, parents of the bride and bridegroom entertained the wedding party and families with a dinner party at a restaurant near Keener A miscellaneous shower was given on May 3 at Cam pbell College for the bride elect. Hoeteasee were Sylvia King of Clinton and Sherron Atkins of Troy. The honoree received many nice gifts. Refreshments of punch, mints, nuts and cake squares were served. The bride-elect was honored with a miscellaneous shower on May 9 at her home. Hostesses were Mrs. Brands Martin of Autryville, Mrs. Janice Bledsoe of Fayetteville, Mrs. Debbie Willis of Clinton, Mrs. Karen King of Autryville, Mrs. Charles King of Clinton and Mrs. Sherrie Baldwin of Clinton. Singing The second Sunday nigfr singing will be held this Stas day at the Alexander Baptist Church beginning at 7. Groups taking part win include Jack Henderson Trio, Alexander Youth Choir, Parris Trio, Ray and Judy Buckner. Personal Mention Mr. and Mrs. Norman Conner of Hoffmans Estate, 111., and Harold Conner and children, Mark and Katrina, of Allen Park, Mich., are visiting here due to the recent operation of their father, Vance Conner. Conner has been released from the hospital and is able to be out again. Mr. and Mrs. John A. Cor bett and two daughters of Fayetteville, and Mr. and Mrs. Ken Sanford and three daughters of Boiling Springs, spent the Fourth of July weekend here with Mr. and Mrs. John 0. Corbett. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wald of Dalton, Ohio, and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey D. Zeigler of Mar shallville, Ohio, left Monday morning after spending the Fourth of July holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wimberly of Route3, Marshall. Mr. and Mrs. Lorry McElroy and children of New Corrolton, Md.; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Crossland of Matthews; and David McElroy of Asheville have all returned to their homes after visiting their parents, Dr. and Mrs. J. L. McElroy. Mr. and Mrs. Pender McElroy and sons of Charlotte, have returned home after spending the holidays with their parents, Dr. and Mrs. J. L. McElroy and Mr. and Mrs. T. R.Worley. Reunion There will be a reunion at Spring Creek School this Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. for all graduates, former teachers, students, and families. Class meetings may be held in the afternoon.
