i Heard And Seen? BY POP Work is still continuing on the post office here but most of it is completed the planting of the three maple trees, plus shrubbery on the parking area has further improved the appearance. .. inspectors were here last Friday and seemed to ap prove everything except for a few minor changes I'm going to miss seeing Bob Garrison and his crew working across from the office here when they leave.... all the fellows have been real friendly and have done a fine job ... here's hoping the public will be considerate of others when parking in the lot to get their mail and not park too long at a time. The press box at the stadium last Friday night was a busy place... two radiomen from Sylva telephoned a play-by-play account of the game; the Sylva Herald has a sports reporter here, and these added to the usual presence of an official timer and scoreboard operator; Jerry Plemmons, statiscian; and yours truly at PA announcer, plus others, filled the pressbox... I was assisted by Tim Wilde, a member of the team who was on the sick list unable to play who did a fine job as spotter ... Tim is a fine young fellow, a good football palyer, who sAd he enjoyed working in the pressbox but missed being on the field playing I also appreciate the new 10-yard markers with their red "sails" which makes it much easier to follow the progress of the ball on downs I thank Bruce Phillips and the others responsible for this improvement. The future looks very good for football, with the Madison freshmen showing a fine team and the Marshall Moonshiners also being an exciting and well-coached team mark my word, some day the opponents had better watch out because when these youngsters get older, Madison will be heard from.... just you wait and see. Moonshiners homecoming ceremonies were very impressive last Saturday night prior to the football game between the Moonshiners and the East Yancey Pan thers all the girls, students of the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades at Marshall, were real pretty in their long dresses.... congratulations to Kenni Rice, the 1977 Homecoming Queen I could hardly believe that Mrs. Robert Blackwell is the mother of Lisa Blackwell, a member of the court.... she looks much more like a sister ! than a mother ... both are very pretty.... also congratulations to the Moonshiners on defeating the Panthers, 14-0. I appreciate what T-Sgt. John Grindstaff of Route 1, Mars Hill, said about The News Record and how much he has enjoyed it while at England AFB, La.... Judy, his at tractive wife, also was most complimentary about the paper.... it always makes us feel better to have someone brag on the paper.... he said he never failed reading this column and in fact, he said he read every word in it every week. ECONOMY Would the Administra tion's proposed Crude Oil Equalization Tax (COET), which would be added to the price of controlled domestic crude oil, encourage increased domestic production? I 1 MM No, the tax itself would not encourage any increased exploration or production. But because COET is a move in the direction of realistic crude oil pricing, it could be a first step towards eventual de control. As currently pro posed, the tax revenues would go into government coffers for consumer rebates and funding other federal programs. If a portion of the revenues generated by COET was returned to producers as a "plowback" credit, it would encourage investments to find and produce additional energy supplies. /W?
