Bills Up
Hie Madison County
i Department of Social Services
' iflHMts food stamp households
? know that if their heating or
Hility bills go up substantially
this winter, the amount they
^_J?ay for their food stamps may
go down.
| Under new food stamp rules
i! effective Jan. 1. households
may be able to get ad
justments in their food stamp
purchase price if heating and
\ or utility bills increase by
; more than $25 over the
; previous month.
[ Food stamp purchase prices
i are based on income after
1 allowable deductions. When
? deductions for heating and
I utility costs increase, pur
1 chase prices may go down
| because there is less income
j available to the household.
The Madison County
Department of Social Services
I says food stamp households
; will now be able to use their
, roost recent utility bills to
| claim a larger deduction.
