Madison High Sports By JOHN 8CHAENMAN The Boy*' Track team continued to improve and gave a large turnout much la cheer about in the Viral Invitational Track Meat hstd Tuesday at Mara Hill College Avery woo the meet by eight i *- k,a - n ? points, Dut cm riiriou prepared themaelvea for the leegue meet to be held which was held Monday at Brevard. There were many out standing performancae, among them Dewayne Buckner placing second in the High jump, second In the 230 dash, and third in the discus. Bill Cantrell placed first in the 100 dash, Mike Chapman placed first in the MO run with a J: 17.5 (school record), Mark Fox placed first in the 440 run, Steve Garrison placed second in the 290 dash and third in the 100 dash, Steve Rector placed second in the shot with a 37V throw (a personal high for him), John Sehaenman placed first in both the mile and the two mile nns, Roger Meadows placed second in the two mile run, and Terry Webb placed second in the discus with his beet throw of the year, a 107'0" toss. GIRL'S TRACK TEAM The Madison High Lady Patriot track team recently concluded a very successful season by placing 10 girls, including all three relay teams, in the Western Sec tionals held at T.C. Robertson High School. The Lady Patriots were highly com petitive in all of their meets along with winning three of them. April 10 at Avery High School. WALKER, of Man Hill, received the coveted Outstanding Student Athlete Award on May S, at North Greenville College, South Carolina. The recipient was chosen from the student body by students, faculty and staff, or a combination of these. Walker, an outstanding basketball star at Madison High School in 1978, is the son of Dr. and Mrs. William P. Walker, of Mars Hill. The event is being spon sored by the Upper Laurel Community Development organization. Department no later than 4:90 p.m. May 11. The fees can be mailed to the department at Box 336, Marshall 38753 or brought to the office between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The office is located by the county swimming pool on Skyway Drive. Entry fee for adult teams, men and worn ens is $140 per team. Entry fee for youth girl's teams is 980 per team.
