Mrs. Cheryl Reeves, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Reeves of Marshall, is a pa tient in Memorial Mission Hospital where she underwent knee surgery on Thursday of last week. Dr. Arthur F. Williams of Asheville, former pastor of the Marshall Presbyterian Church, is a patient in Memorial Mission Hospital ^here he had heart surgery ast week. Roy Bucltner Roy N. Buckner, 64, of Sugar Creek Road, Route 3, Weaverville, died Sept. 21 at his home. A lifelong resident of Bun combe County, he was a member, assistant treasurer and deacon of the Antioch Baptist Church. He was a member of the Vanguard organization and was a salesman at Skyland Oldsmobile. He was also a farmer. He was the son of the late Charlie Buckner, who died in 1960. Surviving are the wife, Sadie Thompson Buckner; three daughters, Margaret Massey of Canton, Jolene Brigman of Barnardsville and Sophie Buckner of Asheville; two sons, Billy J. Buckner of Marshall and Larry Buckner of Weaverville; the mother, Myrtle Morgan Buckner of Barnardsville; two brothers, Charles Buckner of Asheville and Billy Buckner of Barnard sville; and six grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Antioch Baptist Church at Democrat. The Rev. William Lynch and the Rev. Dale Robinson officiated. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery. Cecil Goforth Cecil Garfield Goforth, 54, of IS Oak Crescent Drive, Asheville, died Sept. 17 in Waynesville. A native of Madison County, and a resident of Buncombe County for the past 35 years, he was a veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Miller Goforth; two sons, Roger Allen Goforth of the home and Denver Eugene Goforth of Arden; two daughters, Amelia Thomas of the home and Elaine Elliott of Asheville; the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter A. Goforth of Enka; three brothers, Walter Goforth of Knoxville, Tenn., Bruce Goforth of Mills River and Howard Goforth of Fair view; r sister, Barbara Banks of Asheville; and three grand children. Services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 20 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home. The Rev. Ralph Easterly and the Rev. Bob Evans officiated. Burial was in Edgewood Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Arthritis Foundation or to Edgewood Church building fund. Mrs. Flynn Doris West Flynn, 71, of Route 1, Marshall, died Sept. 18 at the home of a sister in Brevard. A lifelong resident of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Minnie Proffitt West. Surviving are her husband, John Flynn; three sons, J.T. Flynn Jr. of Brevard, Earl Flynn of Greer, S.C., and Van Flynn of Pisgah Forest; a daughter, Joyce Cochran of Indian Trail; a brother, Hubert West of Asheville; two sisters, Evelyn Rice of Asheville and Mary Whitmire of Brevard; and 13 grand children. Services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 21 in Walnut Creek Bap tist Church, of which she was a member. The Rev. Gerald Sprinkle and the Rev. Dearl Ammons officiated. Burial was in Bowman-Rector Cemetery. A.R. Shelton Andrew Raymond Shelton, 46, of Route 3, Marshall, died Sept. 19 in an Asheville hospital after a long illness. A lifelong resident of Madison County, he was a farmer and a veteran of the Korean conflict. Surviving are his father, Raymond Shelton of Mar shall; a brother, Robert Shelton of Greeneville, Tenn. ; two sisters, Pearl Franklin of Morristown, Tenn., and Flora Higgins of Greeneville; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Carson Ora Lee Buckner Carson, 79, of 664 New Haw Creek Road in Asheville died Sept. 19 in an Asheville hospital after a long illness. A native of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late W.W. and Emma Radford Buckner and the wife of Earl L. Carson Sr., who died in 1968. Surviving are three daughters, Helen Carson, Virginia Holcombe and Margaret Decker of Asheville; two sons, E.L. Carson Jr. of Asheville and Coy W. Carson of Greenville, S.C.; a sister, Ruth B. Brown of Weaverville; 10 grand children and eight great grandchildren. Services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 21 in Beverly Hills Baptist Church of which she was a member. The Rev. Stephen Shoemaker and the Rev. Eskin Plemmons of ficated. Burial was in Ashiawn Gardens of Memory. E.A. Sawyer Ernest A. Sawyer, 70, of Route 1, Mars Hill, died Sept. 19 in an Asheville hospital after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Madison County, he was a son of the late Grayson and Mae Ball Sawyer. He had been an employee of Bowman Funeral Home for 33 years. Surviving are his wife, Grace Clark Sawyer; four daughters, Teresa Moore, Clesta Fore, Marcella Rice and Dawn Sawyer of the home; and a sister, Queen Sawyer of Marshall. Services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 22 in the chapel of Bowman Funeral Home. The Rev. Jay Griffin officiated. Burial was in Bowman-Rector Cemetery. Mrs. Messer Vady Mezura Messer, 89, of Route 4, Marshall, died Sept. 23 in an Asheville nursing home after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Indy Parris Gentry. She was the wife of Harrison B. Messer, who died in 1955, and was a member of Payne's Chapel Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, John R. Messer of Marshall and L.F. Messer of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Bonnie E. Webb of Asheville; five grand children and eight great grandchildren. Services were held Sept. 26 in the chapel of Bowman Funeral Home. The Rev. ' Kimsey Ball officiated.
