30 Mars Hill Seniors : ' ' ItMi *3 Named To Who's Who ? i Thirty seniors from Mara Bill College have been selected for Who's Who Among Students in Americas Cottages and Universities, ae? carding to asaociate dean for academic affairs Robert R. Chapman. These seniors were by a panel of IS students and five faculty ?siiiIiiii i using the following criteria: participation and leadership in academic and extracurricular activities, dtinoship. The students will receive their certificates of recogni tion during Honors Day ac tivities this spring. The Who's Who program has annually honored outstanding campus leaders for over 45 years. Since 1984, Who's Who Among Students in American colelges and Universities has furthered the aims of higher education by rewarding and recognizing individual excellence on a na tional level. With the support of over 1,000 colleges and universities in all sections of the nation, this program reflects the caliber of the American col lege student. In addition to having their singular ac complishments presented in the 197M0 edition of Who's .Who, the student members of the program are entitled to use the special reference placement service maintained for the exclusive assistance of students seeking post graduate employement of Engagement Marjorie Honeycutt of Asheville announces the engagement of her sister, Syvillia Gregory of Asheville, to Johnny Tolley of Leicester. The bride-elect is the daughter of the late Clyde and Vergie Gregory. She is a junior at Madison High School. The future bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Tolley of Leicester. Nolen of Weaverville an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Pamela Kay, to Dennis Ray Shelter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Shelton, also of Weaverville. The bride-elect is a 1978 graduate of North Buncombe High School. The future bridegroom is a 1978 graduate of North Bun combe High School and is ser ving in the United States Air Force, stationed at Barfcsdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, La. A December wedding is Christmas Bazaar Greater Ivy's Christmas Bazaar will be held Dec . 1 from 9a.m. to 2 p.m. and Dec. 3 and 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Greater Ivy Community Center (Old Beech Glen School) on Old BurnsVille Highway 19 and 23. There will be a food variety of gift items fellowships, at no charge to the student, prospective employer, or graduate school. Included in the selection are: Suzanne Powell and William Richard (Ricky) Anderson of Mars Hill. Suzanne is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Charles H. Powell and is a chemistry and English major at Mars Hill. She has been a member of the dean's list, an honor roll of students who earn a quality point ratio of S.5 (our of a possible 4.0), and a member of the varsity volleyball team for three years. Anderson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. O.E. Anderson and is a mathematics major. He is a member of Alpha Chi National Honor Society, and is a college marshal. Mars Hill Christmas Bazaar The third annual Christmas bazaar, sponsored by the Mars Hill Community Development organization, will be held Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 in the Mars Hill town hall from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Come by and shop for handmade items, decorations, baked goods, canned goods, candy and lots of other Christmas items. Proceeds go to the Mars Hill library building fund. Plans are moving right along towards a new building to house the library, now located in the town hall. There should be an announcement concern ing something definite soon. Your support of the Christmas bazaar will help this become a reality! Engagement Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Britt, formerly of Mars Hill, announce the engagement of their daughter, Cheryl Ann Britt, to Harrell Martin Wood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harrell Wood of Mars Hill. The bride-elect and future bridegroom are students at the School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The wedding is planned for 6 p.m. Dec. 29 in California Creek Baptist Church, Mars Hill. HALL BROWNIE SCOUTS in ow: Jocelyn Taylor, Stephania rhomas, and Rhonda Kaaey Ramsey, Mimi, Michelle Tipton, Julie Wiae, and Dana Ogle At SNOW QUEEN DEAN GRIFFIN, a senior at Madison High, was crowned by iast year's queen, Mary Jane Pressley, at the FHA dance Nov. 17. Dean, the daughter of Mrs. Edd Griffin of Mars Hill and the late Edd Griffin, won the honor by raising a grand total of $604 for the March of Dimes. This figures represents just over half the $1,186.07 raised by participating FHA members ? a phenomenal performance for one person. She accomplished it by selling chances on a pair of dolls ? Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy, crafted and donated by Betty Pressley of Marshall. Dean had several helpers, in cluding Weldon Rice, Glenda Shelton and the girls in the kissing booth. Other finalists were Charlene Metcalf, Diane Marler and Brenda Chandler. Miss Tweed Is Bride Of Billy V Henslev Angela Arisha Tweed of Weaverville became the bride of Billy Vance Hensley of Bar nardsville at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 2 in the Baraardsville Church of God. The Rev. R.L. Dyson con ducted the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of G.W. Tweed of Leicester and the late Jean Tweed. She is a 1979 graduate of North Bun combe High School. Mr. and Mrs. James D. Hensley of Baraardsville are the bridegroom's parents. He is a 1977 graduate of North Buncombe High School and is McCracken-Hogan Mary Alice McCracken and James Larry Hagan were married at 7 p.m. Friday at the home of the bride's parents. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. Dayle G. Groh. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe D. Mc Cracken of Old Marshall Highway. Hagan is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vance Hagan Jr. of Weaverville. The bride was given in mar riage by her father. Wayne Wickham was best man. The bride was given in mar riage by her two sons, Jaye and Ivan Hembree. The bride is a graduate of Mars Hill High School, presently employed at Square D Co. She is the daughter of Vivian Allen Gardner of Mars Hill and the late Albert Gard ner. Camp Gift Certificates Offered Pisgah Girl Scout Council Inc., headquartered in Asheville, is offering Christmas gift certificates at Camp Pisgah for the summer of I960. The resident Girl Scout camp is located in Tran sylvania County and is open to all girls, not just Girl Scouts. Improvements to the camp, currently in progress, include a new regulation Softball field, a new multi-purpose court for various ball games and tennis and a sand beach at the camp's lake.
