Sociobiologist Will Speak At Mars Hill On March 25 Dr. Tom Baraah, professor at zoology and psychology at the University of Wuhingtoa in Seattle, ia the leader in a new controversial field ? sociobiology. SociobiologisU in genetic and evolutknary factors control human social behavior. He will be at Mars Hill College March IS for a public lecture at S p.m. in Belt Auditorium. He will also meet with biology, zoology and psychology students during the day. Dr. Barash, a native of New York City, earned his bachelor's degree at Harpur College in Bingham ton, N.Y., and his master's and Ph.D. from the University of Wiscon sin. At the very young age of S3, be has published over 80 scientific papers in this new field as well as authored the books "Whisperings Within" and "Sociobiology and Behavior" which have become standards in this new Held. He has been invited to study at the Center for Ad vanced Studies of Behavioral Science at Stanford Universi ty, and has received numerous grants and fellowships from the National Science Founda tion as well as other agencies. Dr. Barash's appearance at Mars Hill is sponsored by the Mellon Scholars lecture series. This program of outstanding speakers la fund ed by a $140,000 grant received from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation of New York to provide new learning ex periences and enrichment for the entire community. Dr. Barash'i lecture at S p.m. is open to the public at no admis sion charge and will feature time for questions and answers and discussion of his lecture. Art Museum Plans Auction The Aabeville Art Museum Auxiliary will hold its Eleventh Annual Art Auction on April It, from 8:90-10:30 p.m. in the Asheville Art Museum at the Civic Center. This auction is the aux iliary's major fund-raising project for the museum. Pro ceeds are donated to the museum for the purpose of maintaining operations and for the purchase of additions . to the permanent collection. Art work may be submitted for the auction from March 24-April 2, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The art will be pro f r? tonally juried on April 3. Artist submission forms are available at the museum. Art on the auction block will represent a cross section of ar tists from the Southeast, predominately from Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee Of those works submitted, a maximum of 75 will be selected for the sale. A preview showing, from April $ to April 19, during regular museum hours, will give the public an opportunity to view the items to be auc tioned On auction night, a 1 preview and cocktail hour is scheduled from 74:30 p.m. Entertainment will be provid ed by the musical group "Going Baroque" from 7-4. The auction willbegin at 8:90. The 17 admission price in cludes cocktails and refreshments. Tickets may be purchased at the door. The Art Auction is a com munity event, open to the public.
